Subject: 02 dakota 4x4 gear ratio IP: Logged
Message: does anyone know if the dealership ask you what size gear ratio you want when you order a new vehicle. Mine is an 02 4.7 4x4. If they did I hope that I didn't say 3.55 instead of a 3.92. Or do they put a 3.92 standard in a 4x4. I am clueless. And, if it does arrive with a 3.55, could I refuse to take the truck unless they agree to swap it??

Message: They may ask you if the person doing the ordering is knowledgeable about these things. Most 4x4's in my area are ordered with 3.92's, but I have seen them in other areas that are strictly 3.55's. I live in WV, and the 3.92's are better for this terrain. I would call the dealer asap and ask them what ratio they ordered it with. If it is not what you want, you could tell them to call Chrysler before it is started to be built and make this change. They can do it if they want too. Being a 4x4, I don't think they would swap the front and rear gears for you for free. My .02 cents.

Message: The standard is 3.55's it's $40 more for the 3.92's didn't they sit down with you while you picked your options? you should have a copy of all the options, what the vehicle is and the price of everything, and it will show which gear ratio you have. If you do have this paper but nothing as far as gear ratios, you probably have the 3.55's. Unless you order a all new truck I don't think the'll switch them out, it's on it's way to your dealer right?

Message: yes, crap, it is a 3.55. that sucks. how bad will this hurt me. I won't be running anything bigger than 31x11x16 super swamper thornbird tires on it, and I won't be doing any serious towing except for the occasional pulling of a jetski. I also won't be doing any serious off roading, just on the beach if i'm there..

Message: Dont worry bout it man ,I got the same setup and it pulls no prob,3:55`s are the perfect all around rear end gear,if you go for like 33 or 35 inchers with a lift someday then skip the 3.92`s and get 4:10,like I say i got the 30.5 tires on it and no probs with chirps in my 01 4x4 4.7 5 speed, where you will see a big diff is with the auto

Message: Call the dealer and have them change it, it may not have been built yet or they may find another one with 3.92's
