Subject: Poor Workmanship...? IP: Logged
Message: So I'm driving down the road last night when I hit a minor bump -- no bigger than driving over a filled pothole right after its filled (when it's still lumpy). I feel a thump on my boot so I look down and pick up this black "gear-looking" piece and examine it. It has a bunch of white gear oil on it -- so I'm thinking its important.
Well, it turns out that its from my "heater box" (I think that's what they said its called) and it's the gear that puts the ducts in line for blowing heat out of the floor (that particular heating option just blows air out of the last selected heating place like the defroster).
They say it's going to take atleast a day because they have to rip my whole dash out and reinstall the piece -- which they say there's "no reason it should have fallen out in the first place other than poor workmanship".
Now, come on -- this is going to be the second time something in my 01 Dakota has broken from "poor workmanship".
First, it was my driver side door's automatic lock wiring -- it came unhooked at the harness because it wasn't snapped in tight enough, and now a gear (or something) fell out from under my dash -- it makes me wonder what else wasn't put together tight enough on my Dak.
Anyone else experienced anything like this? Or have any suggestions? -- I can't keep this truck past 36 months or 36,000 miles if stuff that wasn't put together right keeps falling apart.

Message: my passenger side door handle was a little
disfunctional... I had it fixed, but occasionally it
stops working again. I will probably take it
back next week, and have them check it out
again, oh well, at least I get a free carwash
every time its in the shop!
