Subject: What Spark Plugs for 4.7? IP: Logged
Message: What would be the best plugs to buy for slightly better power and fuel economy for the 4.7 V8? I still have the factory champion plugs in it, which I think are garbage. Any suggestions?

Message: Do the Platinum +4's run cooler than the standard Bosch Platinum Plug (see "spark knock" posting and reply 3/2/01)? I'd hate for you to have the same knock I've got - very annoying.

Message: Unless they have drastically changed the bosch
platnium +4's......AVOID THEM AT ALL COST!!!!! The
platniums are not good for the coils!!!! I tried
them and it gave me nothing but bad idles, and
poor gas mileage!!!! I have talked to many people
about this on this board and another. From what i
understand the platnuim has a different resistance
than standard copper cores and the computer has a
hard time adjusting b/c of it. Plus the change can
damage the coils!!!!! My Advise is to save the
money and just get the AUTOLITE 5224's if you want
regular or the cooler running plugs are the
Autolite 3923's!!!!!! i might change to these
ones.....but that is only my opinion!!!

Message: I dont know about all the problems that dakotapta has had with his truck but its posible that you got a bad batch. been running +4s in the wifes car for 100 thusand miles no problem, and in my truck for 21000 miles. As far as the platnuim core versus copper. the +4 is designed for todays vechile where one plug the one 180 out is firing backwards(from ground electrode instead of electrode to ground)Thats the reason for the platnuim. The plugs that come in the truck are platnuim champions. If you get the plug that is recommended by bosh you should not have any problems with spark knock unlessyou get somthing installed backwards. Which is improbable with the 4.7

Message: I had Bosch Platinums in my 95 for a little over 7000 miles and they knocked like rowdy neighbors, replaced them with Autolite 3923s (OEM is 3924) and a 180 deg thermostat to cure it.

Message: Well matt, when i put in the bosch +4's i had no
problems with the motor or performance. I bought
the plugs at advance auto, which corrolated with
the correct numbers and all. I put the plugs in
since they are pre-gapped, and then reset the
computer for just in case....i ran them for about
7,000 miles and everytime i would stop the engine
RPM would plummet down to 300or less to a basic
stall and almost have to restart the truck. After
being fed up with the problems and decreased gas
mileage, that is when i got on here before all the
changes and asked around. I swtiched to the
autolites and the problems instantly went away!!!!
it might just be b/c of the 4.7L engine, but i am
not sure. Had a very similar problem with them in
a 5.0L ford truck engine. I did a fulll tune up
including wires and ai got nothing but engine
codes took it to the dealer and and they said to
take the boschs out. I did and instant fix!!! I
dunno.....but i personally don't trust bosch
products anymore.

Message: I have a 2001 QuadCab. I had alot of work done to it from the factory. It has ram air hood, k&n ram air intake. Mopar chip and dual flowmaster exaust. When I put the car in park or chang gears from reverse to drive the rpm will drop to almost stalling. It has the same plugs it came with. I dont think its the plugs for the lower idle. The computer in the engine probably has alot to do with it. These cars are extreemly sophisciated. Any way thats my 4 cents.

Message: Python 97,
I thought the K&N and the Mopar PCM are not available yet for the 4.7?
Do you have any part numbers you can post. I know that a few of us are looking for those mods.
Thanks

Yes...please tell us what the Mopar P/N# is for the PCM.
Extremely sophisticated? There's only 256 lines of code in the PCM's. The email program your using has more. ;)
