Subject: another window tint question IP: Logged
Message: I have factory tint and a rear window defroster in my 2002 CC 4x4 and I was wondering could I put darker tint over the existing tint? I did a search on this and read that sometimes the rear defrost causes tint to bubble; I would assume that the factory tint will be alright, so will the factory tint help reduce the aftermarket tint from bubbling? Any thoughts?

Message: I used to own a 1987 Plymouth Horizon with no factory window tint, but I decided to put an aftermarket tinting on there. I did not notice any bubbling of the tinting due to the rear window defroster (or the lines at the back of the window).
Also, I used to own a 1998 Plymouth Breeze, and I also had the rear windows tinted (aftermarket tint). I did notice some bubbling of the tint, but I believe that was due to the fact that the guy who applied it didn't take due care in getting all the bubbles out.
I think overall if the window is flat, it is easier for the guy applying the tint to get out any air bubbles, whereas if the window is curved it is harder to get out bubbles. The rear defroster should make no difference in whether or not the tint bubbles, it is how the tint is applied.

Message: I have a 2000 QC w/ the rear defroster and factory tint. I had aftermarket tint installed over this with no problems. The guy said he does rear defrosted glass all of the time. On the Dakota they have to split the tint to get it over the wiring on the defroster. They made it looked really good though. You cannot tell it, if you didn't know they did it. Dodge should have made the defroster unplug. The design is ridiculous. Hope this helps.
