Subject: can't even do a tune up

I got the tune up kit from speedtweaks (plugs, wires, cap & rotor) I can't even get all the spark plugs out. Do you need some special tools or something? My ratchet won't even get in there to get the plugs out. I knew my mechanical skills were limited but this is ridiculous. By the way, I have a 2000 V6. Any ideas?

A 3/8 drive ratchet with about a 4" extension and the spark plug socket shoudl get you where you need to get the plugs out.

I didn't have too much of a problem with mine until I got the JBA's. Then that freak'n "Ram's head horn" makes it more difficul, but not too hard. Try using a 'wobble head' for the socket. It works wonders.

I posted this over on the v6 forum a while back. Here's a reprint ...

Handy tools to have when changing plugs:

- Air compressor or a can of compressed air (for cleaning keyboards) so you can blow away all the crud around the spark plug. Better than letting it fall into the cylinder.

- A flex head ratchet is invaluable when used with a short (3") extension to access the rear driver's side plug. A medium (6") extension also comes in handy.

- A pair of pliers to remove those dirt trapping heat shields. Twist while pulling and they'll come right out.

- Diaelectric (sp?) grease to put on the ends of the plug wires. This makes pulling them off easier the next time you change plugs as well as helping to keep moisture out.

- A 6 foot cheater bar if this is the first time you're changing plugs. Dodge has a gorilla that uses an impact gun to install the factory plugs.

To change the distributer cap you'll have to basically sit on the engine with a screwdriver in one hand a flashlight in the other. It's tight back there.
