 Subject: Dimmer Switch Problem

As I furiously switched my lights from dim to bright in a fit of road rage yesterday, I noticed that, sporadically, my lights would go out completely. If I giggled the wiper/turn signal/dimmer switch the lights would come back on. Anybody else have this problem? Anybody figure it out without having to go to the dreaded dealer?
1998 Dakota, 5.2, 5spd, 4x4, ext cab.

I know my dimmer switch gets really hot when the dash lights are on!

I have that problem sometimes too. Just noticed it a few months ago. The only way I know to resolve it is to wiggle the switch a little like you did. My truck is out of warranty now, so I just figured since I have a workaround I will wait until it completely goes out.

Thought I'd follow up on my post...
I sprayed some electrical contact cleaner in and around where the dimmer switch pivots and (I guess) makes the electrical contact to switch between dim and bright and that seems to have done the trick. It's been about a week and I have not had the problem since. The switch seems a little easier to engage, must have been really dusty in there. If anybody hasn't seen contact cleaner before you can get it at either an auto parts store or a home improvement place, it comes in an aerosol can. I'll let you know if the problem comes back.

When I try to put my lights on bright, the lights go off and I get a disco effect on my dash lamps. Everything in the dash blinks and flashes....Suggestions?
