Message: Heather, if you but the R/T invest in a set of winter specific tires like the Bridgestone Blizzak. The traction is unbelievable, throw in a little weight and you will get where you need to go. One place to shop is www.tirerack.com you can purchase tires already mounted on wheels for a good price.
Buy them both, you will not regret it.

Message: Heather, 1 more thing, You do not have to buy 17" wheels and tires. 15" or 16" will work with the same outside diameter or reasonablely close. Tire Rack has packages for under $600.00 not much when you consider most people pay at least 5 bills for their insurance deductable.

Message: Have michlin(?) xterran(?)on wifes Grand Cherokee ran them in NY winters have great traction in snow and quiet on dry pavement. I had to Replace a set of dunlops radial rovers that had less than 15,000 miles on them, had no traction unless road was TOTALLY dry.
