 Subject: 89 Dokota Dist. Pickup keeps failing

I don't know anything about trucks. Im posting for a friend. He has a 89 Dakota and the "distributor pickup" keeps failing. The truck runs for a couple weeks and then it won't start anymore. Replace the part and it works for another couple of weeks.
ANY SUGGESTIONS? Your help is apprecaited.

The distributor itself might be worn out making it spin out of round which would explain the new pick-up coil failing every couple weeks.
