Hi,
I tried that Check Engine diagnostic test and I got code 52, which stands for "A rich air/fuel mixture has been indicated by an abnormally lean correction factor."
Can anyone explain this to me. Does this mean have I may have problems with my cat or my 02 sensor? Or any other cause?
Currently, I'm experiencing some problems with rattling sounds when I accelerate and coming to stop. I heard in earlier posts tha this sound is attributed to a fauly cat. Anyone have any ideas or can shed some light would be appreciated. Thanks.

Put your key into the ignitation. turn the key forward to run and back to off three times with out starting the engine. the code(s) will appear in the odometer.

Sancho: How many miles are on the engine (and O2 sensors...if they were replaced)? Also, the abnormally lean condition could be caused by a vacuum leak, bad O2, really dirty IAC (causing it not to close properly - lean condition), not enough fuel pressure/volume.
Check all of those first...but if your O2 sensor has more than 60K miles on it...it's time to change it anyway.

The truck has 82K on it. None of the sensors have been replaced since I bought it. I'll replace the 02 sensors. How many 02 sensors does this truck have? Where can I buy these sensors? Can I clean the IAC or do I have to replace that too?
I just had the engine cleaned recently, topside only. Also, I had a problem with my temperature sensor. The one next to he thermostat. It seems that he plastic connector melted away and it won't stick to its place. I need to replace this. Do you know where can I buy this type of sensor?

You were right about a possible vacuum leak associated with my error code 52. I poked around the engine this weekend and found a hose connected from the passenger side head cover to the intake. The hose has a hole underneath. I changed the hose and reset the PCM and now the CE
light is off and I don't hear that hissing sound anymore.
The problem I have now is whenever I put my car in drive, my truck would jerk forward as if I applied gas, then it would die. I started it and everything goes fine until I come to stop and the engine would die again.
What do you think could be the problem here? I'm going to have my Cat removed next weekend. Could a bad Cat cause the problems I have now? Also, I'm going to do that ITS mod next week and see how things go. Thanks for the help.

I guess I spoke too soon. Today, the CE light came on again with the same error code. Darn! I though I had this all squared out. I guess I'll have to look further as to the cause. Possibly the 02 sensor? Thanks.

OK - I did the on/off trick three times on each of my 99's. The only thing that came up was the mileage. I am assuming the code will only appear if there is a problem, correct? Pardon my ignorance on this. -- Jim

although I didn't do this test on my 99, I did do it on both 02's. when there is no errors, it says p done.

Here's how I am doing it -- maybe not correctly --
Turn key to start. Wait until all bells are done chiming. Turn off.
Do this three times.
Are the codes supposed to come on after the third turn?
