Subject: RE: Remote Starters IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 3.9 5 speed and acquired a remote starter. I dont want it to be able to start when its in gear. I have heard of a neutral safety switch, what is this exactly and can i use it with the remote starter? I dont want to start my truck from my bedroom and have it come on inside to say good morning. Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

Message: In case anyone wants to know - I installed a remote starter in my kota 5 speed. I know its not the safest, but the set up i used was a safety switch on the parking brake and a toggle switch near my cigarette lighter wired in parallel. This said, the parking brake must be set AND the toggle switch must be armed to start it with the remote. Normal starting was unaffected. I tested the truck when in gear with parking brake set and remote starter armed - it was hell on the starter and electrical system but it only moved a total of about an inch. It then restarts the cycle (for my starter a total of 3 times). I am not endorsing this in any way, but i thought someone may find this useful.

Message: Sorry about a typo in my last post - the toggle switch and parking brake switch were wired in SERIES not parallel. No problems yet. Another thing is, my starter can change the number of tries, so i changed this to one instead of three in case i do leave it in gear.

Message: Brad get an alarm system with that feature built in, many have this. It's not hard to hook this up. Every system I've seen that does remote start is ONLY for vehicles with an automatic transmission.
