Hi guys, I need some quick comments. I have a buddy whos friend has some Jacobs spark plug wires that are 8.5mm silicone wires. Will these fit my 1990 Dodge Dak, 3.9L V6? I already have a Jacobs ing. coil too along with alot of exhaust and intake mods. Thanks for the help.

I'm using the Jacobs wires. They are 8mm I think. MSD uses 8.5mm.

TigerDak, yet again you come throuhg with help! Your amaizing my friend. Thanks alot for the info. Is there any perf. difference in Jacobs 8mm and 8.5mm? Is one too big?
Have any of you ever heard of High Energy Industries spark plug wires? My buddy has a set and I though about buying them from him. But if they are crap, Obviously I wont. Thanks.
He said they were like $65.00 wires.

Hey Joe. MSD and Jacobs both make great wires. I have the MSD 8.5's, but the only reason I got those is because they are compatable with MSD ignition systems. I would go with the Jacobs wires for your application though. I figure that there is little room for error if you use the wires made by the company that makes your ignition. Further, MSD wires are not solid core, whereas I believe the Jacobs are. You may want to check if any future igniton parts you may add are compatable. As for the size of wires, you won't notice any difference between 8.0 and 8.5mm wires on a V6. It is really the quality of wires that counts. The only problem I had with the 8.5mm MSD set I got was that I had to drill out the holes on the stock wire looms to make them fit. Other than that, they are great. My friend has the 8.0mm MSD wires, and he reports that they are great too.

Ok on the Jacobs wires. 8mm or 8.5mm doesn matter. But my other question, on places like ebay and other internet sellers, I see all kinds of Jacobs Ignition wires for sale. When I look at them, can I buy any set of Jacobs wires or do they have to say specifically 1990 Dakota V6 on them? I realize that if I buy a set of wires that use to be on say a chevy or Ford, the length might not be exact but what about the hook ups to the distributor?
OK, I found a set od Jacobs wires on ebay. They were off a Chevy suv. I called Jacobs up and they said "no" they would not fit due to those wires being for the vortec engines.
Wires are wires right. Why wouldnt they fit?

I got a set of universal wires for my Dak. I had to cut them to fit, and crimp on the terminals and boots myself. The reason the wires you saw on eBay might not work on your truck is most likely because either the spark plug boots aren't the right type (Daks need the multi-angle boots, the straight ones, to fit between the manifold and the head), or because they are the wrong length. I would recommend getting yourself a new wire kit specifically for your truck (which I'm not sure are available for Jacobs, and I'm sure aren't available in MSD). If you can't get that, get yourself a V6 or V8 universal kit. You have to put the distributor boots and terminals on yourself, but you'll be sure of the fit. I got a V8 MSD universal wire kit because they don't make an 8.5mm universal kit for V6's. You'll have to check what's available.

But as long as the wires have a multi angle boot, or straight boot and a 90 deg. bott for the dist, the wires would fit. Obviously I might have to trim the lengths down but that is no big deal right? Thanks spyder. I will just probably look for a set of Jacobs universal wires.
Next question. Have you heard anything about Jacobs Omni Magnum Ignition system? I almost bought one but thought I would ask yall first. Thanks.

If you have a straight boot for the plugs and a 90 degree boot for the distributor, you should be fine. To trim a set that already has the boots attached, you would have to have replacement terminals to crimp onto the wire. I have no idea where you could find these, but they are really easy to install once you have them. I would definitely recommend just getting a universal set, however. If you have to change the length and the terminals, you may as well.
As for the Omni Magnum Ignition, I really have no clue. I think TigerDak may have one though.

Thanks Spyder, I am thinking about getting a set of Mallory wires. I cant seem to find any Jacobs wires except on the Jacobs web page and they are really costly from there.
TigerDak, do you have the Omni Magnum Jaacobs Ing. system? If so, do you like it and recomend it? Thankd.

I have 8mm Bosch silicone wires on my Dak, I put them in when I installed my Bosch +4 plugs, I figured it would be a good idea to have matching plugs and wires, I'm kind of anal in that regard I guess.
