Subject: Trans coolers IP: Logged
Message: What size cooler should i get for a 99 3.9 auto ext cab?? The ones i was looking at range from 14 inch to 21 inch.

Message: The one they add to the tow pkg trucks is only about 12", if I remember right. Anything you add is better, more oil/more surface to cool the oil. If you can find a place to mount a larger one, try and get it. Heat destroys engines and tranny's. So, maybe a 16-18. Just a guess. Hopefully other will voice up their opinion.

Message: I dont think bigger is better in this situation. The tranny cooler radiator installs in front of the engines radiator on my truck (01 4x4 w tow pkg) If you go to big it would seem that it would block air flow to the engines rad..Just a thought.

Message: If you have a tranny cooler, do the tranny lines go right to the cooler and bypass the radiatior cooler completely or does it still go through the radiator cooler before going into the auxilliary cooler???

Message: well, ive never actually studied it, but im sure it goes directly into the trannys rad..If there was a way for it to run into the engines rad there wouldnt be a need for an additional one

Message: My 97's goes to both, which is first I don't know. All (as fas as I know) rads have a tranny cooler.
