Subject: home made intake's tip IP: Logged
Message: Just wanted to share this to anyone making or thinking of making a home made intake for the 4.7. I used what others have used on the throttle body, a 3" rubber 90 (fernco) but I picked up today a 3" pre bent PVC 90, it's perfectly smooth in the bend inside and out, it's rated to 90 celsius ( around 200 degrees farenheight I think) it's original use is as conduit. I picked it up at an electrical supply store for only $4 including tax! the same 90 in aluminized from Flowmaster costs about $35!. So I just need the K+N filter now, total cost, fernco $10, 90 $4, K+N $40, $54 not too bad. if it works good I may just keep it even after K+N comes out with the kit for the 4.7. Just my 2 cents.

Message: I guess I should have tried it before posting about it. Took the stock air box out tonight to do some fitting, couldn't get the 90 to point the right way. It works good coming out of the fernco 90 on the throttle body, but no matter how much I trimmed it on either side it just wanted to keep pointing into the inner fender. After lots of trimming it may have worked using a K+N filter with an angled flange, but the one I was planning on using is straight. Oh well I'll think of something else at least until K+N comes out with their intake kit.

Message: Use the pictures from this ebay auction to help make your intake. Or, just order the intake from this guy. I bought mine from him and have had no problems.

Message: Hardbody, try this thread. It's the longest and most detailed one I've seen on homemade intakes.
