Message: I ordered my 2002 Dakota Quad Cab SLT+ 4x4 today from my local dealer. I selected ALL the extra options and got it for 28K out the door. I found it for cheaper (by 500 bucks) elsewhere, but decided to pay for the convenience of ordering it in my back yard so-to-speak.
I'll let you all know how long it takes to come in.

Message: Congrats! I picked mine up the day after Thanksgiving. So far so good. I really like my new ride except for:
The leather interior is not as nice as the 2001
No more center console interior light, even though the manual says that there is one.
No more underhood insulation
The paint finish was not great.
When you pick it up definitely take your time to look it over. There is a good checklist to use on this site.
QC SLT+4x4
leather
power convenience
overhead convenience
tire & handling pkg
tow pkg
heavy duty service group
infinity sound system
4.7L / auto

Message: Thanks RJay. I was going crazy trying to figure out where the darn center console light was! I figured that since I got the SXT model Dodge deleted it to save money. Now I know I'm not imagining things.
Too bad it's gone, too -- with black plastic and a deep console, it's like a cave in there.

Message: Im in VA. The reason I chose the dealership I did, was because the salesman was nicer than the rest (not trying to convince me of things I didnt want or need), and I wanted to build a relationship, so when it came time to get service and perhaps trade-in or buy another vehicle, then I would have a face to associate with. Since my last purchase was a lemon, I wanted to make sure that I could hold a PERSON accountable, and not have to drive 30 miles each way to do it.
Maybe I am just a sucker around the Holiday time, but they have families too...and I think I still got a great deal. The invoice with all my options came to almost 28K. I got it out the door for that.
Can you point me towards the checklist?

Message: That is a good price. I am in MI and I got my 02 from the dealer that is 3 miles from the factory. Dodge City. The window sticker is cool. It says "this truck was built especially for (your name)"

Message: I heard that....That is cool...
Well, looking back over my previous posts, I think I did ok, price-wise, compared to some I have seen from other vistors.
I got every option minus the leather interior, and like I said the MSRP was over 30K. I looked at the invoice price for the configuration (26,800), added $1200 for taxes tags, etc, and subtracted $1000 for consumer cash. $28,000 seemed like a good price for both parties involved. He's making $600 over invoice (plus $400 cash to dealer, that he didnt know I knew about until I told him after I worked the deal with him, which was worth the look of surprise on his face), so they made a cool grand off the truck during a "consumer-tight" time. I am happy with the deal, and hope I am just as happy with the truck when I get it.

Message: I'm sure that the dealer made more than a grand. Even if the dealer sold it for "invoice" there is dealer cash like you mentioned and 2 to 3 % discount from the factory depending on the dealers sales history. I got the dealer cash and it was $500. I also got friends and family. My msrp was $28455.00 + tax= 30,162.30 I paid $27,272.06 out the door. 02 CC 4x4 slt + 4.7 with most of the options other than leather, power seats and the full time t/c. I work construction so leather wouldn't last. The biggest bummer was paying a full dest charge for a 3 mile journey :-(

Message: OK DK I'll bite, How in the hell did you get you QC that cheap? By my calculation a price of $23k would be $3-4k under invoice, depending on whether you have automatic tranny, something's not right.

Message: I wonder what the reason for the cost difference is? Maybe you are getting an export-type vehicle sort of like how cigarettes are manufactured differently for overseas purchase...
I dont know. It's a hell of a deal...maybe I'll move...NOT!
