Message: I was wanting to get a second vehicle, a 1991 Toyota MR2 2.0 Turbo, and was wondering if anyone here has good or bad things to say about them?
I do own a 2001 Dakota QC, and I don't plan on getting rid of it.
Thanks,
QuadCab

Message: a friend of mine used to have the same car about a year ago, 1991 model, it was green with the turbo, that little thing was very fast for the money... I think he gave around 5,000 dollars for it and it was in very good shape, had a little over 100K miles on it.
he put a blow off valve on it and it sounded sweet...good choice for a toy!

Message: I have an 89 Supercharged MR2. It's a blast! So will be the turbo. But WARNING!!! These cars are high on insuruance. They are in the same rates as Porches. Also they require a different driving style because of the mid-engine layout. If you drive it like a regular rear wheel drive, then I gaurantee that you will swap ends on corners real easily.
I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just some pointers to consider.
There is a great site: mr2.com
Lots of info for you.

Message: Another thing to consider is a Mazda RX-7. Those you can find for dirt cheap. The Turbo II is supposed to be fast. Fun cars to drive and you can pick them up for 2 or 3 grand.

Message: They are not bad if you plan on doing only minor things. like leaving it in your garage! If you plan on fixing it up, forget it! Nobody wants too work on them. Its a minimum $300 for any work done to it.(because of the piping, its in the way of everything). If you got tons of cash to drop in it, then sure, have at it. you can make high 300's in HP on pump gas no problem. But shops hate to work on them. This is a direct quote from a SoCal shop, "I couldn't charge you enough money to work on that POS." ha ha ha lol. Its my friends car so it seems funny to me. The only ones ive seen fixed up are owners of shops and there close friends thats it. Oh yeah if you got the cash, put on a wide body kit. They look great in them!!

Message: The car I'm looking at has 89,000 miles on it, and he's asking 5 grand for it... I'll try and get him to come down. I don't plan on doing much to it performance wise. He's says it needs some work, so we'll see what that means, I'll definitely have it inspected first.

Message: The origanal MR2 was designed by Lotus as the Lotus 90. Lotus had some cash flow problems in the 80's and went looking for someone to buy some of it's designs to offset R&D costs. Toyota said sure we will buy that nice mid engine coupe design. Lotus sent a few engineirs over to Toyota to help with componet selection of off the shelf parts in Toyotas inventory that could be made to work. They Toyota kept improveing and refineing the design as time went on. They are fun car to drive. Their are also alot of HP parts for them!!!!!!!!! In my book they are second only to the Toyota Supra Turbo for pegging the fun meter.
