I have a '93 dak 318, and i wanted to put some wires and ignition on it but i don't know if they are worth the money or even what kind to buy...i also wanted to put on some under_pulleys but i don't know if they are worth it either and if they'll effect my towing capabilities and if one of those electric fans will keep my engine cool enough...i would appreciate the help...thanks

Wires: Any reputable company will do...MSD, Jacobs, Taylor, Accel, Magnecore, etc. It doesn't hurt to put performance wires on a daily driver either.

Underdrive Pulleys: They're mainly for getting those last few HP out of an engine...5-10HP normally. Shouldn't hurt towing performance either.

Electric Fan Conversion: Easy way to free up some HP. However, make sure that you get a good system that has a high enough CFM rating since you're going to be towing with it. When in doubt, call the company that makes them. I personally use a Hayden 16" (too small for your application though) but would recommend contacting Flex-A-Lite for the correct fan for your application.

Hope that helps,

What do you need to know? I've been using MSD since 1984 and have installed Jacobs, Mallory, and Accel systems as well.

Bernd or anyone else-
I am always looking for a little more power here and there, but being a college student, modifications come behind many other things (ie-partying). hehe Anyways, I have a custom intake and cat back exhaust and am considering power pulleys. Also possibly an new ignition. I am almost out of the 36,000 mile warranty, so i am feeling a little more feedom on what i can do. What would you recommend for good results without a lot of cost.
Thanks

You'll have better results with a modified throttle body. The Ignition system and pulley's only make a small amount of HP gains as compared to the throttle body. Think about the F&B Billet 48mm TB for your V6. You're '98 will definitely have noticeable gains with the TB since the factory TB is very restrictive. (It'll also be enhanced by your existing Intake and Exhaust system that you've already installed.)

Cost wise, if you put the price of the pulley's and MSD system together, they're close to the cost of the TB.

Mopar Joe: Hughes Engines makes a inexpensive stock casting V8 TB. Bruce (Flometrics) also makes a 50mm Billet for the V8 folks, but may not be what you want for offroading.

When offroading, you don't want high RPM horsepower...low-end torque is preferred.

A mechanic told me that the MSD or any other Ignition system only benefit your truck at high RPMs. Something like avobe 3500 rpms or more. So he advice not to put it on. Is this correct, if not, what are the benefits of the Ignition system at low RPMs.
