I have had my resistor pack break twice. Usually just one speed blows out at a time. On my truck its located on the right side of the firewall inside the engine compartment. Its a $7 part from the dealer. It only takes two screws and a plug to replace.

Mark and everyone else out there with this same problem of having only high speed on the blower motor. (2004 Dakota) The part was picked-up for around $9.00 and with a little help from the Mechanic Gods was able to replace the HVAC Resistor with ease. It's located under the dash on the pasenger side, two 5/16" screws and alot of twisting. The replacement part looks nothing like the original...it has electronic resistors and tape around the curcuit board. The original looks like a piece of plastic superglued to a connector..? 5 pin connector has a clip that slides to the side to free it and don't forget to clip off the 4 side tabs or it's not going to fit...GETTING THE SCREWS BACK IN WAS THE HARDEST PART!! Priced the work out at a local service station...Saved myself $85.00 in labor...took my non-mechanic butt 20 mins.. Thank again Mark.

Does anyone know where I can order a new wiring harness for the blower motor resistor online? I have a 2003 Dakota. I have been told to try a dealer or junkyard but I can't get to either with my work schedule. I can find the resistor, but not the harness. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

2003 Dodge Dakota.. .about 1.5 years ago the resister blew, replaced it and all is good (Although I never really thought the ac worked all that great - bought it used- shop says ac temp is good so I question blower motor) ... anyway, it went out a few days ago... I got another resistor, but this time the harness looked a little crispy on one terminal... I plugged it in and it worked fine for about 3 days and now it is off again. Do you guys think I need to rewire that harness???? or is the motor bad and burning up the resistors. I am sort of leaning toward motor burning up the resistors, but wanted some other opinions. Is there some way of testing the motor to see if it is shorted out or something???

Steve,

I think you need to replace the harness. I had the same issue, the connector that the resistor plugged into was melted a little bit and I kept replacing the resistor and it would work for a while and then blow. I think once the resistor burns the harness adn connector plug it continues to short them out. The new harness comes with better wires and connections and should stop that from happening. The problem is the only place I could find one was at teh dealership for $75. I have a friend that works at a shop and he was able to order it for me for $53. You can get the resistors for $9-$12 on rockauto.com so I would replace everything at once.

Heater fan blowing starter ac clutch fuse

We have a 1993 Dodge dakota 5.2 318, keep blowing the 30 amp fuse under the hood, we have already disconnected the ac clutch and replaced the blower motor resistor, trying to figure why it is still blowing. Truck will not start after fan has been on, need to replace the fuse every time.

I'm fighting this also. How much current should the motor draw at high speed? If yours exceeds change the motor. (Can be measured with clamp on meter at resistor pack with fan control to HIGH)
The fuse value is not the indicator for blower current! Chances are your connector at resistor pack is HOT. If so check that the connector wire socket is slid ONTO the pin of the Resistor Pack and not adjacent. If only adjacent the connector is poor and it creates HEAT. Heat melts plastic and then contact move away from each other if adjacent. New harness connector can be obtained from Dodgeparts.com. You may have to call and give VIN.

Blower motor on my 01 dakota wasn't blowing at all, so read all the stuff here, and opened up the duct to have a look. Found the resistor completely missing and the plug cut off. Bought the resistor at Oreilly, no luck on the plug.
My question is, which wires can I temporarily join to make the fan run while I hunt around the junkyards for another plug?

Got it working by turning on the fan to high, and then putting a jumper from green wire to all others until fan runs. Connected those wires togather, taped them up, and sold the truck...
end of problem!

I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad cab, blew many resistors and fried harness, took it to dealer and mechanic said Dodge installed faulty blower motors, he fixed the problem after having so many vehicles with the same problem, he replaced blower motor with a caged motor, replaced resister and harness and installed a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse box, have not had a problem since, have checked Dodge website for recalls as result of this problem, nothing posted.

Hi I have a 04 dak and I replaced the resistor,
blower motor and harness and still not power going

there is an open circuit somewhere and I think it
may be the ignition switch and ideas would be very
much appreciated.

Hi I have an 04 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4.7L engine. I've replaced the climate control module, blower motor, resistor, harness and there is still no power going to the blower motor. All fuses and relays are working fine so I'm wondering what else could be the issue?
