Subject: MY DAKOTA - RIPPED OUT FROM UNDER ME IP: Logged
Message: Well, after searching 10+ local dealer's lots and calling for availability on several more, I finally found ONE (yes ONE) truck that had ALL the options I wanted. Granted, I had to forego a few "nice to have" options, but for the most part this truck had everything I wanted and needed (and it was in the right color)
I called the dealer and asked him this afternoon if he still had it on his lot, and he said YES. I said GOOD, keep it there. I live about 2 hours away...I'll be there as quickly as I can. I want that truck.
So after I hung up the phone, I waited patiently for about 2 hours for my old lady to come home from her motorcycle safety class. I grabbed her up, threw her in the truck and off we drove to get my new truck...
Well, I pull into the dealer's lot and low-and-behold, there's a Dakota, just like I asked for, parked out front and just been washed. I thought...that's strange, they cleaned it up already for me? It had tags and everything...hmmm
So I ran in, grabbed the dealer, and because he was with another customer, he told me my truck was parked in the lot...so off we go to look through the lot for my new DAK.
Well, 15 to 20 DAKs later, I still cant find my truck, swearing it is the one parked up front that is clean. So as I walk back up to the dealer's door, a sales guy comes out with 2 people saying...congrats on your new purchase...you'll love your new Dakota....
WAIT A SECOND...THAT'S MY DAKOTA! YOU SOLD MY DAKOTA? YOU BASTARD!
Oh well, cant blame him...someone was there with money, and here I was just a voice on the phone.
So that was my day, watching my close-to-perfect as it gets truck, driven off by someone else.
I guess I need to bite the bullet and order one straight from Dodge, and wait 6 to 8 weeks. Question is: will I still be elegible for the incentives if they expire before I take delivery of my truck?
Sadly Dakota-less,
Zute

Message: FYI, I ordered my Quad Cab loaded less leather, w/ 4.7 auto on 10/28 and it was on the dealers lot on 11/15, not the 6-8 weeks they said.

Message: Zute
I take it you were searching from the Dodge web site of Dealer inventory ? If so this is what I did on my new truck only I used the e-mail service to get the best price from the dealers, this worked out great I didn't have to waste a lot of time messing with them. When I got close to the deal I liked I e-mailed the Salesman My name, address and phone # and that I was coming to drive the truck & deal on it, when I got there he had put a HOLD tag on it. 30 min test drive and 1 hour dealing and $300. more off his best price I was the proud owner of a new 01 DAK CC
And happy as He11 I didn't get a Ranger!
$21,790 list
$18,300+ tax out the door
Good Luck on your new truck

Message: Also, I have not yet completed the paperwork to have GMC buyout my lease on my "lemon"...so I am still nervous about putting money down on a new truck, until I am sure that I am out of my other. My lease is with a bank, not CF, so they still have to cut a check and get it to the bank in order to be truely complete.
Is it better to special order the truck to get the best deal? I figure that way, the dealer wouldn't have to keep paying on it to sit on the lot. How negotiable is the purchase price?
Well, I'm gonna give the dealers another day or two to locate one that is damn-close..because if I have my way, the GMC lease termination paperwork will be filed and this resolved in the next few weeks, while still in the Dodge incentives time frame.
Still in search and research,
Zute
PS - Good to hear that you got YOUR DAK so quickly!

Message: Thanks, I've done that for the last 2 weeks, minimum. In my area, there are only 2 sites that offer the "search inventory", and Ive even found a few that list a few on their OWN web site. If I want to compromise, there are TONS of DAKs out there, but not in the configuration/features I want.
I'll check out KBB for more pricing information.
Thanks.

Sounds like your pointed in the right direction.
Just watch some of the incentives if you order some may expire by the time you take delivery.
Good luck with your lease, And getting your new Dakota.

Message: Thanks Dan,
That is one of my major concerns at this point. I know Dodge will have incentives after the 1st of the year too...maybe better than what they are offering now.
I called Dodge Customer service, and they told me thet the incentive: "Home For The Holiday", which includes (in my area) either $1000 cash back or 0% financing, plus 7 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty, is order protected.
I will follow up with my dealer, and if they cant guarentee me the APR, at least perhaps I can secure $1000 bucks cash and the extended 7 year warranty, even if this incentive expires before I take delivery.
If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know.

Message: I was back into my dealer to get a Durango for the wife. The salesman told us that if the truck comes in after the 0% you don't get that offer. He did however say that he can put it through at the 0% but he would need the ser# to do so. So, he would call the factory and get that ASAP and then we could do up the deal. You can't do up the deal without the ser#. If you don't mind paying for a truck you haven't gotten yet, you could do it that way. Anyways, he wouldn't come down enough in price so we are going with a 02' Envoy.

Message: I think I will just get em to lock in the 1000 cash back and 7yr warranty. I can get a loan from my credit union for 5.9%, and not deal with them at all. What's best is, I may get a beter deal cuz I'll be paying cash.

Message: Be careful of ordering a truck just before Christmas. I did that. At 300 miles I did the first oil change and found that only two bolts had been put in halfway on the left engine mount where it attaches to the block. The other two bolts weren't even there.
My truck was in frame up when the factory took vacation. Obviously the person putting the bolts in the left engine mount forgot where they left off at the beginning ogf vacation.
I ordered my truck the first or second week of December and it arrived at the dealership February 2nd.
