Subject: Is the 8 speaker cd/radio worth it? IP: Logged
Message: I was told by the dealer this is th only way to get the 8 speaker system. Does the "Infinity" syatem sound and perform good enough for me to not want to swap in another radio for a long while?

Message: I don't feel it is. I still have the stock infinity speakers in mine. When I bought it, it had the Stock Am/FM cass. But before trading my old truck, I pulled out my Kenwood and put the original back in. Putting in the new deck in the Dakota really cleared things up. My wife even commented on it, and she doesn't really care about her car stereo, as long as it plays CDs. For what the dealer charges, you can really get a nice aftermarket deck. Mine is one of the first Kenwood Excelons with masking. It makes the stock deck look like a K-mart Kraco.

Message: I dunno about that ... we've got the am/fm/cassette/cd/equalizer setup in our '99 Intrepid ES. It's the best sounding factory stereo I've EVER owned. I ordered the same setup in my new Dakota, but haven't got the truck yet, so can't tell you how the "newer" model performs. But the '99 factory setup kicks some ass in my book!

Message: I cant tell you about that system, but I can tell you that the 4 speaker system blows. This is one of the worst stock systems Ive heard. My 2000 Blazer that my wife drives now had a great stock system(Me being and avid audio enthusiast, this is a big compliment). Im looking into swapping out the system very soon

Message: Where are the 8 speakers in the quad cab dak located and can I put them in later? Did the factory use differant kick panels or something to place the extras in? I would like to get the stock radio, replace it with a new one and replace the 4 speakers as well as add the other 4. Can I do this?

Message: I feel that the Infinity system is a pretty good deal. I have it in my standard cab truck and really enjoy it. It isn't like an aftermarket system that you can hear a block away, but that's good for me with some of the W. Lafayette cops that frown on that. Plus, the stock systems seem to get stolen less. And the dealers are pretty good about problems. I was in an accident and the cd got jammed in the player, i took it to the local dealer, and they put a new one in. Try that with an aftermarket stereo.

Message: It seems as though some of the replies posted aren't accurate (as far as your question is concerned). I just got an '01 Dakota with the 8 speaker Infinity setup and am quite impressed. I traded in my '00 Jeep Sahara and I had an Alpine setup in it that seriously jammed (2-5.25" JBL rears/2-4"x6" Pioneer fronts/2-10" JBL subs with an Alpine cd head unit and 2 Alpine 50x4 amps).....no problems with power or clarity there. I will say that the Infinity speakered stock cd/radio in the Dakota isn't quite as good as my Sahara setup, BUT I can't find any real shortcomings unless you like your music really loud all of the time. Controls are simple, buttons are large, it looks ok and thieves won't be dying to tear your truck apart to get it.

Message: I ordered My Dakota on Feb. 14. On my 98 Dakota r/t the infinity setup sounded really good so I wanted it again. When I saw the price of the cd/cassette it bothered me how much it coast. So I ordered the up graded cassette player with the 8 infinity speakers. When it comes in I am going to pull the tape player and put in a high end Kenwood CD player and still save money.

Message: I had the infinity system in my Dodge Ram and was not all that impressed, but my Cody ROCKS! For a factory system this is really good. I do allot of time towing and the steering wheel controls are great. I can keep my hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Message: I still think its a small cab, and would have been perfectly happy with the five dollar "baby boombox". But then again my country music doesn't require much.

Message: I have the 8 speaker Infinity CD/Cassette combo in my '00 Club Cab. I agree, the Infinity speakers are great, but the CD/Cassette head unit is not any better than the CD head unit. I had the CD head unit in a rental truck I had once and it sounded the same as my CD/Cassette Combo.
I do have a few regrets with the system though, 1) It needs a sub. (or a pair of subs).
2) The claimed '8' speakers is actually 6 speakers, a pair of 6 1/2 speakers in the door, a small pair of tweeters also in the door, and a pair of 6 1/2 2-way speakers in the club cab, (I was kind of disappointed when I figured out thier counting scheme).
As far as stock systems, it is the best that I have heard thats not in some $50k car. Two of my co-workers have the same setup I do, in thier wives Durango and Grand Cherokee, and they dont have any complaints. Over all, I love the setup and I would buy it again. Like someone said, its not the systme you can hear a few blocks away, but it still HAS set off a car alarm about 15 feet away.

Message: The best overall answer I can give is this; If the 8 speaker infinity am/fm/cd/cass system happens to come in the truck that you get the best deal on. Great. Then you have a very nice system as far as stock goes. However, if you have to special order it, have the dealer install it, or in any way pay what they'll charge you extra, then I recommend saving the money and buying aftermarket. The stock deck doesn't come close to my Kenwood.
