I notice on my temp gauge that most of the time, it is usually at 1/4-1/3 of the way up the gauge.The needle usually goes up until its 1/3-1/4 of the way from the H and then goes back down to its normal position. Is this normal?

That almost sounds like a t-stat sticking, those are cheap and easy to replace, not to mention with winter on it's way it might not be a bad idea to replace it, but before you do that check the coolant level
