OK, Dodge wants 812.00$ to replace the Evaporator.

before it went i got clear odorless fluid on the DRIVERS side floor.

Is this too much to pay?

ChrisW, My local dealer quoted me about the same price to replace my evaporator. He told me the evap. is $200+, but it is located behind the dash so they have to remove the enitire dash to replace it. It's not the parts but the labour that is sooo damn expensive.

Cheers,

I just want to thank you man because I was having that leak for a long time and I took it to my mechanic and he had no clue. So this has really helped me out. Thanx for bailin' a brother out.

i found an aftermarket evaporator for $99.00

I wonder if that includes fittings and other related install stuff.

i'm thinking of taking it to an automotive AC shop instead of the dealer, It might be cheaper.

Chris and All,
First thing is be sure it is your evaporator coil that is leaking. Nine times out of ten a refridgerant leak will occur at a fitting, joint, or service port before it is in the evaporator or condensing coil. You can check this with a ultrasonic or halogen leak detector with the system under pressure, or you should be able to get your mechanic to show you if you don't have one. If your mechanic won't or "can't" show you then you probably don't have a leak in your evap coil and he's just looking to rip you off. If your leak is in your evaporator coil then by all means have it done professionally, the tools and equipment necessary to replace it will exceed the costs you guys have been quoted.

Windshield Washer Freezing
IP: Logged

Message:
hello
I just bought a 2003 dakota sport. Previously owned a 1998. The Windshield Washer jug is now located in the front next to the rad.
The wiper fluid is continually freezing (anything less than about -10C) at the nodules on the hood. I took it in to the dealer twice. Of course no help there. I use -45 fluid and an additive to make it -50C, and its still not coming out AT ALL.
Chrysler Head office says they are not aware of a design problem. dealership now says they are getting complaints on this model for this.
I wondered if any of you also experienced the same.
Many thanks!
Ja

With regards to all the posts about R134 smells, I recently had a leak and could smell it from the dash vents. My freon sniffer couldn't smell it from there so I placed it in and around the box under the dash but also couldn't prove there was a leak. I knew there wasn't any leaks under the hood because I used the red dye and the sniffer but also never saw any residual around any fittings like I have seen with other vehicles from the past. Then I read about you guys stating that if the drain hose or tube becomes clogged that eventually it would cost about $812 to fix at the dealer. Well for you past, present and future guys, I remembered that freon is a heavy gas and will fall to the lowest point. In this case the lowest point is the drain tube or hose for the condensor. When I placed the sniffer tube up there the thing went wild...so the moral here is that you must check every known avenue to troubleshoot these a/c systems. The problem now lies in when I'll make the repair. I'll buy the condensor but will have to wait until the weather here in Texas drops from 110 degrees to about 75 to get me to do it. Anyhow, thanks guys for showing me the drain tube to sniff test the condensor as I have figured out from ALL the posts. BTW, I have a '00 Quad 4WD Dak with the 4.7 and it's black. My other vehicle is a '98 Durango but the a/c is ok even though it's built the same as the Dak..go figure?
