Message: I placed an order for a new 2002 Dakota QC 4x4 and I would like to know what the current manufacturer to dealer incentive is. It was $500 when I placed the order. This information is important because my dealer said they would pass this $ on to me if it is available at the time of delivery.

Message: No,
I'm not looking for the dealer to customer cash which is currently $1000 but the "hidden" manufacturer to dealer cash incentive.

Message: Hold back allowance? A dealership with a website that claims they sell for factory invoice stated that they get a hold back allowance from the manufacturer for vehicles leaving the dealersip within 1 month of arrival on convoy (special orders and those on lot). They claimed it was 3% of MSRP less the destination charge. Some place in Oklahome, I believe.
I mentioned this to a dealer when negotiating for my truck and they got all agitated and wanted to know where I had learned of this allowance.
They weren't ready for someone who had done extensive research before buying...

Message: There are factory to customer rebates, there are regional incentives, there are factory to dealer incentives, there are dealer hold backs, there are package discounts, and I bet there are even a few more ways for the dealer to make money (warrenty work, extended warranties, financing, loan insurance, etc.) There a lot of books out there on this stuff but www.edmunds.com does a pretty good job of explaining it for free. They also list national and some regional factory to dealer incentives but it is not always the most current stuff. I remember a while back I was looking at a new Caddy STS and it had a $5000 rebate, $5000 factory to dealer incentive, 3% (of the $55,000 MSRP) holdback, and they were willing to sell it and only make a total $500 profit. The top of the line caddy was only going to cost me $41,000 on a $55,000 MSRP! Still to much for my blood considering they are only about $27,000 for a nice low mile 2 year old one.

Message: I am looking specifically for the factory to dealership current incentive. I am aware of the $1000 cash incentive, the farm bureau rebate and the 3% holdback. Edmunds does not have this current info. If anyone has this information, I would be very greatfull.

Message: To tell you the truth brutus, I doubt Dodge is offering any factory to dealer incentives on the 2002 Dakotas. It's just to soon in the year. Dodge doesn't use this tool as much as some other makers either, they are more upfront at pushing the rebates directly to the customer, then they can use national advertising to get customers the word. I know also DC has dropped rebates on most Jeeps and lowered MSRP across the board to try and get away from the perpetiual rebate game. It was starting to look bad in road test comparisions as the magazines always use MSRP and never mention or factor rebates into their as tested price. It was so bad on the Grand Caravan they had to make up a whole new model the 'EX' that has all rebates and incentives built into the MSPR so the consumer could easilly tell how much better the features were on the Dodge compared to the Honda! Look for the every redesigned vehicle to come from DC to drop rebates and build that money into the MSRP. Not to say as the model ages and at the end of the year they won't offer rebates as part of a sale, I just think they don't want rebates to go on forever like they do now.
