Message: Hey Dakota fans,
My wife and I just got our first Dakota on Saturday and man is this truck sweet.
2002 Black sport Quad cab 5.9L 4x4 loaded
This isn't our first Dodge, but it is our first truck.
We started in the Dodge world w/ a 1998 Viper RT..traded up for a 2000 Viper RT and traded that for a 2001 Durango (plus change=). Bought a PT Crusier....but, figured out quickly the manual and V4 aint fun....So, we traded the PT in and got the Dakota this past weekend.
I think we'll have this 2002 Dakota and 2001 Durango for a long long time.
I do have one question: I've already searched the board and read all that there is on Westin Nerf bars....but, I just heard from a business that the 2002 Dakota QC is different that the previous years. He said that I would have to order the 2002 Westin Nerf bars to have it just bolt-on.
Is this true? I'm searching right now and want to get the chrome nerf bars on as quickly as possible. Also, do you have any comments on Quality S or Tech'Tubes bars?
Thanks for your help in advance and look foward to reading and posting w/ you Dakota fans,

Message: First off... Congrats of your new Quad Cab!! I just got my 2002 QC last month and I love it! I wanted to get Black like yours but got the Graphite instead for a change. Black is a great color on the Dakota (and Viper, hehe...)
As for the 2002 models, they are the same as the Quad Cab 2001 and 2000. Depending on the parts, you can also get away with '97-99 accesories. I have a body lift AND suspension lift, both for a 2000 model, and they fit perfectly. I'm sure you could put 2000-2001 Nerf bars on without any problems. Most salesmen don't know the vehicles as well as the owners so they always tell you to wait for the 2002 parts to come out. Hope this helps!
BTW, how did you like the Viper? I'm seriously considering buying one but I've heard mixed feelings on the characteristics of the handling. I like the race-car feel and it seems that is the complaint about the Viper, most drivers can't handle the venom! Thanks.

Message: Congrats! I know the feeling, just drove my 2002 QC, SLT-plus back from the dealer today. 250 miles over a 12,000 ft. pass, through a snowstorm and it handled great. SO far so good, but then who doesn't love a brand new truck?

Message: Hey there, L and L. Got my '01 quad at the end of August - black 4.7L, 3.55, SLT with an A.R.E. CX camper top. 6,300 miles so far, and not one single problem! It's been a great purchase - I know you'll like yours as well.

Message: Thanks for the welcomes.
I forgot to fill in how we got it:
We've bought all our vehicles from Woodhouse in Blair, Nebraska (Viper, Durango and PT) and had them shipped to our house...but, we decided we could save that $900 if we drove up there in our PT and drive back in our DAK. So we did.
We talked to Bill and he didnt have a black 4x4...but, then he called us on Wednesday and said he found a black 4x4 in the 4x2 section and we needed to jump on it or it'd be gone. It was a 5.9L and we were looking for a 4.7L...but, you can never have enought HP..right?
So, we decided that we would leave Thanksgiving night and drive til we got tired. Made it 5 hours, then we drove the rest of the 10 hours on Friday. We got there right when they were closing at 6pm. But, no problems...they waited. The owner Bob Woodhouse actually got on his knees and cleaned our doors. We packup and take off. Drove to Kansas City and stopped for the night. Then we drive the rest back to Vicksburg, MS.
2028 miles in 3 days. Great scenery, fun road trip for a great truck.
TallQuad: I'd be glad to help you out in getting you all the info you need. We had a Viper for 2 1/2 years and I was a Viper board Moderator...so, I've seen plenty of message board posts. I'll try to get your email from your post (if available)..if not just email me. loguell@bellsouth.net
But, the quick answer. Is get a Viper. It's an amazing experience. If the stock market didn't bottom out, we'd still have our Viper. I'm not a race car person nor is my wife and we both did Autocrosses and drag strips.
Our 2000 Steel gray w/ silver stripes R/T was dyno'd at 480hp (We have some pictures here...some were deleted because I needed the webspace http://personal.lig.bellsouth.net/lig/l/o/loguell/Viper/viper.htm

Message: lol Going from a v10 to a I4 .. na that's not a big difference ;-) although for a 4 banger that PT has a bit of zip. Congrats on your Dakota I haven't head anything about the 2002 being different from the 01 besides cosmetic stuff.
Welcome to our little piece of webspace.
