Message: Hey! That would be great. Unfortounatly, there is little interest in chryslers 2.5. I have surfed endlessly for anything on it and have found zilch,{although there is a supercharger for the 2.5 in the PT Cruiser}. It,s a shame chrysler ignores this engine as it powers a variety of their product, {unlike FORD. Thier 2.5 can produce 650hp no joke} Maybe it,s because of the failure rate. They don,t last in the stratus, cirrus, and breeze at all.Lots of head gasket problems. But email chrysler enough and who knows! Until then, my Dak is inline for an engine swap. Schumacher has several kits, including the new HEMI.

Message: That is a double over head cam 2.4 in the PT. Totally different.

Message: That is a good idea. There are always some 2.5 folks here and on moparchat.com looking for suggestions on hp improvement.

Message: Kinda my point. The little Dak engine isn't a speciality like mr. concept vehicle. If enough interest is shown, they will put another engine in or start suppling the 2.5 engines with acss. We have to show them there is a market. Even if the lil' Dak engine needs love and n20.

Message: Hey. I found a forum for Dodge Daytonas. Lots of info on the 2.5 there. I'm not sure if it's applicable to the Dakotas as well (I guess it depends on the year), but here's the link:

Hope this helps!

Message: Since the 2.5 is basically the same as the 2.2 (stroked), why wouldn't a factory turbo setup work for the Dakota version? I realize that the engine is turned the other way, but the basics have to still be a bolt-on. (At one time I was really big into the 2.2L turbo stuff and had a '88 Daytona Shelby Z so I remember some stuff.) Anything with a turbo can usually make lots of power, given the correct mods. It's nothing to see turbo Chargers and Omni turning 12's in the 1/4 mile. Might be worth the research to see if this is worth the trouble.

Message: It will work as long as you have the overhead cam version of the 2.5 and not the jeep pushrod version. They used overhead cam engine in the early dakotas but switched to the pushrod engine right away, I think before '90.

Message: CW, hey I think you got it wrong there. I looked through my 2001 Dakota brochure and that 2.5L looks like the same old 2.2 basically. Oil filter in front, intake and exhaust on the same side, spark plugs same place, etc. I don't think that Chrysler ever used the Jeep 2.5 in the Dakota. They still use the 2.5 Jeep engine in the Wrangler though.

Message: i was told that the older gen I's and gen II's are the overheadcam and the newer gen III's are the pushrod type, the same as the jeep engines, but anyway a 2.5 board would be cool. after all the chevy s-10, ford ranger, and nissan frontier boards all have the 4 banger boards.

Message: I could very well be but does yours have the overhead cam engine? If it does then a retrofit turbo off of a car shouldn't be that hard. There is also a super60 turbo kit for the cars and they put out over 300hp. I will take alook and let you know I am kinda interested.

Message: I looked on several sites and it is a OHV engine and not OHC engine. There is one thing that you 2.5 guys should look at and that is higher ratio rocker arms KRC has a set.
