Subject: blown cat at 27K on 4.7L IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, i wrote earlier this week about a noise under the truck, thinking it was the tranny. I took the truck into the dealership for service and today they called to notify me that it was a catylitic converter failure. I am not sure if it was a precat or the main cat since i have 3 on mine, which sucks since i don't live in CA...i live in PA!!! oh well. Thank goodness for 9k left on the warrantee!!!! hopefully nothing else dies on my short lived dak!!! already replaced the stering column, and both upper ball joints!! oh well....

Message: gotta love those cats. I had 2 replaced on a 97 and one on a 99 dak. That supplier should have been shot.

Message: Hey bluangeldak,
I think the emissions side of the warranty goes out 50K. Not a 100% sure but a few years ago I had a cat go bad on an Audi that was out of manufacture 12/12k warranty and the cat was replaced, I think I had almost 40k on it.

Message: Well got my truck back but they didn't fix the cats yet. They supposedly had to order the parts and they have to be shipped in. They are replacing all 3 cats plus the pipes!!!! so maybe it will have some better performance?!?! who knows!!

Message: on your cat it's covered up to 80K or 8 yrs which ever comes 1st. i called on mine and that's what they told me. the only prob with mine was that i had to replace it my self, becuase they were able to tell that i was offraoding when i did it(don't ask i don't know how but they could). to bad the warnnanty didn't cover offroading for my 2wd. best of luck to you though.

Message: i'm on my 3rd catalytic converter on my 97 V6 and i've only had the truck for about 6 months.
also, i asked some guy at the dealership why they go bad so often on the dakotas and he gave me some kinda lame excuse. he said because people like to pack the gas tanks with as much fuel as possible(like after it cuts off when you're getting gas, and you try to round it to the next dolalr)
i didn't buy it but who knows
