Message: Dodge does it again !! At 43,000 easy-driven miles, the dealer says my transmission is shot!!!1100 bucks to fix it!!! This truck fu--ing sucks!!! The problems never end!! The headaches never cease!! Anyways, it sticks in 2nd gear in the morning and once it warms up, it shifts fine. Do you really think the trasmision is shot? I think i need to take it somewhere else for a second opinion.

Message: 99 dakota 3.9 V-6, auto trans.....it shifts fine once its warmed up.....i thought it might be some kind of sensor or valve but of course, now that the warranty is up, they want to put a whole new trans. in it.......i think i'm getting rid of it

Message: I had a truck that stuck in first gear, also the diagnose was a rebuild because of a sticky valve. I tried a shade tree mechanic trick and drove the truck around shifting gears. I manually shifted, not letting the trans shifting when it wanted to. This seemed to force the fluid into the valves harder or around them or something like that. I'm not sure what it did but it sure works fine now after about a week of driving. Good Luck, It's worth a try IMO, its free!.

Message: I would follow Fillupd's advice and drive the tranny hard for a bit, had the same problem with mine and that is what I did and it worked fine

Message: I agree with the last two postings....
Shift it manually for a while. If that doesn't fix it, you still may just need to have your valve-body cleaned out, but that doesn't mean a trans rebuild. The valve-body is easy to remove - with the trans still in the truck.

Message: the warranty ran out at 36,000 miles.......i have 43,000 miles....i figured it might be some sticking valve in the valve body because it shifts fine when warm......the dealer is just too lazy to check it and wants to replace the whole rotten mess....for 1100 bucks!! Screw that!!
