Message: Hi All:
I have tested the 4.7 with a 5 speed and its a wonderful combination. Little exhaust rumble when you tramp it for those few and far between smiles each day but quiet and smooth all other times. I have never had a truck before and this vehicle is the absolute most comfortable of all the vehilces we have tried (Escape, Explore Sport and Short Bed, Highlander)
The Answer: For those look for the 4.7/5 speed combination in a quad cab Etown Dodge in Elizabethtown, Pa mush have 20 quads with 25% of those being 4.7... 5 speeds
The questions i have are:
Q1. I liked the 3.92 rear in 2nd through 5th but first seems really too low for starting out. Do most owners simply start out in 2nd gear which I tried and it worked fine every time. I would consider the 3.55/whatever rear but i think the opposite would happen and now 5th would be too high and shifts to fourth on the gradual hills would be necessary.
Also i want to fit slightly taller and wider tires later on the stock rims (anyone done this) which will bring the 3.92 effectively toward teh 3.55 and might ease the first gear issue a bit. Q = Given all this do you feel the 3.92 is the best for me
>>>>
Q2. While checking all the lines out here there is no mention to making the Dakota handle a bit better in the turns. Q = Has anyone done any work on this or know of anyone that has. I am not looking for sports car handling but cutting the acceptable lean a tad
>>>>
Q3. I want to carry my semi vintage CBX to Rallies every so often which is one reason to buy the Dakota vs the Durango....butttt I am wondering about the various bed covers avail and the convenience/inconvenience of each given this use. I saw a roll top desk type approach to a cover using plastic panels at a local ford dealer ...has anyone seen these.
>>>>
Q4. What are the top 3 mini/econo proven changes one can do to pick up a few extra hp and what effects are there of each on the computer
>>>>
Q5. What about aftermarket sun roof or two smaller ones on each side of the trip computer assy
Bout it and thanks to everyone for your time and consideration

Message: For handling, do you have a 4x2 or 4x4?? If it's 2wd, you can put on a Hotchkis suspension and get sports car handling.

Message: Answers,
Many people start in 2nd gear.
If you want bigger tires definatly go wth the 3.92 you may find a good mix between tires and gearing somewhere in there.
The suspension well the R/T's come with the Hotchkis setup stock or something REAL similar. IN any case they are a great upgraded however it does lower the truck and it lowers the payload capabilities.
