Ledtronics.com is coming out with the 3157 Wedge style bulb that would replace the incadescent bulb currently in our brake and turn signals. Looking at some comparable leds they have (1157) they are running about 48.50 a bulb. If I could get them to do a group buy, how many would be interested??? I've been bugging them about this since I found thier site a year ago. Go to Ledtronics.com and look at the 1157 bulb under Automotive bulbs and thats what the bulb(not base) is going to look like, it has leds in all directions, not just pointing out the back. You can email me privately, that way I can keep track and when they come out, I'll have an appox. number of potential buyers.

Thank you

I'm interested, but-
Since HzEngineering.com went TU, I'm
skeptical about anyone being able to make
these things either affordable or stay in
business making them at all. Since they have
to be hand made, mfg cost is extremely high.
Let's see what they can do; I reckon a full set
for a Gen III Dak will run well over $300 - not
worth it at this time.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before
someone breaks away with a realistic price
point. I'm holding my breath...

Theoretically, the LEDs are brighter, and will last the life of your vehicle!! So no more rplacing bulbs. Why do you think all the new School busses, and cross country truckers have them for lights now?? All the school busses here in my area of Cali have LED brake and turn lights. Even the old busses have been fitted with them. Safety issue I guess since they are brighter and more easily seen. And I see a lot of Semi trailers on the roads now that have the LEWD lights in them. These are all professinal drivers, and they use them so must be something good about them!!

I dont want people to get the wrong impression or anything, but its just a bulb. The whole light housing (like the Caddy) is not being replaced, just the bulb. Now the Caddy light would be really sharp on the Dak though. Ive yet to see one of those lights up close.

Hmmm...at 48.50 per bulb, with the front of our Daks requiring 4 of them, equals $194... for "friggin light bulbs"!

Who cares if they will last the life of the vehicle? If you go to Auto Zone, regular bulbs cost about $3.99 per 2 pack (for the Sylvania "long life" versions). You could buy 48 packs of regular bulbs (replacing the whole set on your truck 24 times) before you would equal the value of these LED versions.

Heaven forbid you get into a "fender bender" and break one or two... oops another $48 - $96 gone!

I just don't think this is a very "cost effective" solution... but maybe that's just me. Sorry about ranting, but it just seems that these LED manufactuers are just tryin' to "get over" on us. Maybe if they could get the cost down to under $10 per bulb... then maybe. But $50? Hell, my clear corners didn't cost that much!

Im very aware of the price difference between the 2 types of lights. If you don't want them, thats fine. Im not tryin to come off as an a$$hole, I just don't need to read the pro's and cons about them and that the regular bulbs are cheaper. If they don't come down to a good price for the G/B it probably won't happen.

You can always swap them into your new vehical, if and when you sell your Dak!
Besides this is all about customizing your own truck to make it special to YOU.
Plus it gives you better safety by having quicker and brighter lights and you don't have to put them all the around your truck, just on the rear.

Hey Blckdak,

It's not that we don't want them... it's just that we don't wanna get raped on the price...

I guess they just wanna "recoup" whatever their cost is to design and develop these, but so far, these are just lookin' a wee bit out of our "comfortable price range".

Sorry if my post offended you, but I was only speaking the facts...

Your post didn't offend me, thats your opinion and thats great. For those of us that think it would be different to have these and are willing to pay that amount, more power to us and hopefully we could get them cheaper. Don't go making it sound like its some ridiculous thing to do. Like Daddy-D said why do we do some things we do, cause we can. If you put a $2,000 supercharger in your truck and god for bid crash it a week later, well there goes $2,000.

Guys, Personally I like the LED idea. They do snap on faster and are brighter,I have the signal mirrors on my Dak and they seem to really get peoples attention. However, I am planning on installing a roll pan and putting some flush-mount LED strips on the pan and filling in the stock brake lights.I saw somewhere in the SignalMirror literature that since the LEDs light up faster than an incandescent that, at 70 mph, your brake lights will be seen 18 feet before your incandescents (whatever that means)
heres another source for strip LEDs:

Hello, I belive that the new Cadilacs that use the Light Emiting Diode's do not use one in a central location like a bulb. I belive that the entire lamp is field with them spread over the entire surface of the lamp. If I remember i will check monday at work. The tail lamps on the Cadilacs are realy expensive to replace.

I had LEDS in my wrangler, they were the correct bulb size and replacement they were very bright and looked very very cool, but my turn signals blinked like crazy.. really fast like a beater.. anyway so I sold those, I was at Murry's the other day and bought a set ($10 a bulb) ones specifically for dodge.. and I put them in with my clears, and they looked awsome, but I turned on the turn siganls and they flashed like crazy... unless someone can come up woth ones that don't mess with the turn signal timing.. they are not worth it!! (the ones that are discussed in this thread as long as they don't mess with timing, count me in.)

Ok Blckdak, I didn't say it was "ridiculous"... just "expensive". But if you've "got it like that", then by all means... GO FOR IT!

I'm sure it will be amazing!

(Maybe I should wait and see if a "cheap knockoff" ever gets released... LOL. Oops, I just saw DavesKota post on "cheaper ones"... maybe not then. Oh well...)

Gentlemen... we reman the very expensive LED brakelight used on 92-97 Cadillac Sevilles/STS. We also have had calls for LED whatevers...we were suggesting the ledtronics.com site. Upon some research today on a possible new product we bought a copy of 'truckin' magazine. In there there are some LED bulb replacements as cheap as $20. May be worth a look....

"Flashing like crazy" means you don't have
enough load on your flasher with the LEDs.
Either you upgrade to an electronic flasher unit
or install line load resistors to fool the
old-style flasher into thinking you still have
incandescents in there.

All way cheaper than ledtronics.com
I put in a set in my tailights, when driving at night my brake mights were out until I hit the brakes, and the blinker flashed like a squirrel on crack. Both of which I was pulled over for.

I might be wrong but I think you have to buy the led bulbs made for chrysler, I accidentally got the ones made for Chevey and they blew fuses and totally screwed my truck up. Oh well I ordered some crysler led's for my truck from Jegs last night.
