Subject: Rear Anti-Sway Bar IP: Logged
Message: I just got a 2000 Red RC 3.9L Sport 5-speed. It replaced my 2000 CC 3.9L Sport Auto (long story)
Here is the question:
It has the same wheels/tires as my other CC but lacks the rear anti-sway bar. I though the tire and handling package included the nicer wheels/tires as well as the rear bar, it did on my 2000 CC. Just curious what is going on here. Also how much does a factory Anti-sway bar cost? Would it be better to get a Hellwig or something else? How hard are they to install?
Thanks
Geoff

Message: As I've been told before, the regular RC daks(read non R/T) even with tire and handling package don't recieve the rear sway bar. I guess Dodge in it's infinite wisdom decided the lighter RC didn't need the rear sway bar. I happen to have on laying in my garage along with an entire R/T suspension if anyone is interested.

Message: I would be interested in just the rear sway bar if its a direct fit for my truck. And the price is right
Thanks

Message: Dang those SOBs at DC must of cut it out. My 97' had it but my 2001 doesn't I just figured it was there all the time and never looked. Might be a good upgrade. I would be willing to bet it would be a dirrect bolt on from the R/T.

Message: Is the one that comes on the R/T the same as i had on my 00 CC Sport? If so it's very thin maybe .5" what is the diameter of the Hellwig and hotchkis?
THanks

Message: Yeah they are not very thick I will probably go with the hotchkis sometime I am sure they are stiffer.

Message: Don't know about the HellWig, but the Hotchkis rear sway is about twice as thick as stock. I'm tryin to sell my suspension as a whole kit. I have one person interested right now. If it falls through, I would be willing to part with just the rear sway, and put the rest of the pieces on Ebay.

Message: I could be wrong buy I think I read somewhere that the stock rear sway bars are hollow. The guy I talked to at Performance Suspension here in Phoenix likes the Hellwig best.

Message: There is a guy already interested, and depending on shipping cost, I think he will buy it. As far as the sway bars go, the stock front sway bar is hollow, as is the Hotchkis front sway. They do this too keep the weight down. We don't need anymore weight up front that we already have.

Message: DoaktaDan's has a rear swarbar because it is a CC. As HSKR said the onlt way to get a rear swaybar on a 2wd RC Dakota is with the R/T package. (at least for the last 3 years, maybe longer.) I'd be hesitant to mix and match suspension kits. Bigger sway bars are not always better especially if adding it to just one end of the truck, it could really add a ton of oversteer or understeer. The R/T handles very well from the factory, motor trend had an article comparing it to a BMW and they actually perferred the R/T's handling to the BMW's (it also accelerated faster then the BMW as well). I've never driven a Hotchkis so I really don't know but I bet, as almost always, tires is the best first upgrade for handling. Then maybe the hotchkis would be good.

Message: I put the hellwig on my last truck. It really leveled out the ride on a top-heavy Yukon. I'm going to replace the flimsy factory sway with the hellwig.
