i have a 4x2 and we are thinking about moving to maine.. our relatives said it will be a good idea to have a 4x4 or front wheel car ...well i had no idea i was gonna move there so can i make my 4x2 a REAL 4x4 ....please dont say should of bought a 4x4 ... "i know this now"

It would not be cost efective,practical or wise to try this. It can be done but it would cost you a fortune. The only time a modification like this makes sense is if you do all of your own work and feel the need to hit your head against the wall. Your best bet is to just get a limited slip rear differiential installed and a set of good snow tires. Do not by into the front wheel drive hype.

I wouldn't waste my time or money on it. Sandman is right. Mine does just fine with the limited slip. Last winter we had 18" of snow and there was about 4" of packed/ice from plowing on the roads. The limited slip did just fine with the GoodYear Eagle LS tires. I didn't even put on the traction cables... A guy dided up here in the Sierra Nevadas because he got carried away thinking 4-wheel drive was the saving grace on snow and ice. Witnesses state he was going too fast and he lost it all over a cliff.
