Subject: Water leak out of exhuast IP: Logged
Message: Wassup everyone,
Ive noticed this ever since Ive had my truck. 2000 V-6 auto reg cab. When I start it up I get a small amount of water coming out the exhaust. This last only a few seconds after startup. Also, by the area where the cat hooks into the exhaust and where the muffler hooks into the tailpipe. Im pretty sure this is just built up condensation in the exhaust. When I shut it off and come back after a few minutes the ground is wet at the tailpipe and under the cat and muffler. Again, in the same places as the small leaks. Its clear water and I know it cant be water getting into the exaust from the motor. So is this just normal condensation? Thanks for any help.

Message: Your engine acts like an air compressor, and water condenses out as the air in your air compressor cools. That is why there is a drain/vent valve at the bottom of your air compressor tank. It will only happen while your exhaust is still cool. This is the reason lots of short trips and hardly any long trips causes mufflers and tail pipes to rust out.

Message: Water is one of the byproducts of burning a hydrocarbon. When you burn gasoline, oxygen combines with hydrogen, and you get H2O.
