Subject: 2000 Quad Cab idle issue
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 Quad Cab with the 4.7 V8, 2WD and standard transmission. I am very happy with it but have had a nagging "problem" since I first got it. Occasionally, right after starting it and for about fifteen minutes after that, the idle will increase to @ 1500rpm when the clutch is depressed or no load is placed on the engine. It doesn't stay high, but surges up for a second or so, then falls to normal. It doesn't idle high. When I depress the clutch, the rpms surge, then fall. The engine doesn't have to be cold for this to happen. It happens intermittently. I can use the truck several times with no problem, then get in it and it starts surging for a few minutes. The dealer actually told me this was normal, but I don't buy it...something about the oil cooling fan.

Any ideas or suggestions?
