Yellow, very ugly looking car, tried to race me earlier this night.
Probe flys past me.
I fly past it.
It's a male driver and his caveman brain kicks in and see's me going faster. Which says he must beat me since I passed him.
I see him comin' up...I stop accelerating and I let him get a lil ahead 1/2 car length..and someone in the back window turns around, I don't know if they flipped us (girlfriend and I) off or just smiled...
Then I speed past him again 2 car lengths..
He goes faster..I let him catch up...yaddi yaddi.
Rinse and Repeat...
We finally get off highway and are entering the city..err..town, and I stop and go the speed limit and he goes 40 thru a 25...idiot.
I coulda sworn these cars were supposed to be faster than that. I thought it was another guy who said he was pushing 280 horse in his, but it wasn't...I think it was stock.
BTW, my girlfriend thought it was funny... "oh how cute, the little yellow car is trying so hard!"

Only the turbo probes are a threat. There is no distinction on the cars,i.e. special badging. They were intended to replace the Mustangs when they came out. Good call not racing in town. Let the idiots have thier way and get the tickets.

280 HP on a Probe? With what jet engine strapped onto it? That's FUNNY!!!
I had an '89 Ford Probe (4 banger with no turbo), it was "alright" but definitely NOT a screamer...
The turbo 4 cylinder was ok... I guess, but still it would require ALOT of work to get it into the "threat level"
And the last V6 Probes were "quick", but without mods... I don't think so...

the 1st gen probe gt's were the turbo 4's, they were ok i guess. pretty much the same story as the mustang svo's, just not very much quality on the turbo 4's from ford/mazda(the rotary is completely different story:p). the 2nd gen gt's got the V6 and were pretty quick. either generations n/a I4's ran upwards of 18sec 1/4 miles....pretty sad, really

Well damn, I feel pretty damn stoopid, I just remembered..I don't have ANY IDEA why I said Probe..it was a Focus. LOL..that proly makes it even worse and yes, I talked to a guy on a paintbal field that said he pushed 280 horse in his Focus and I even saw it there. Doesn't look like much was done to it though. Says he beats Preludes all the time..

I saw a picture of a Focus, don't remember if it actually got released or was still in the concept phase - supposed to be a race version. It looked really ricey.

there is currently a focus running in the "import class"(why???) that is currently the closest "import":/ to hitting 200mph traps in the 1/4 (they just hit 194mph)
and, he said he can beat preludes? WOW... that is some accomplishment...280hp should have him beating a hell of alot more than preludes.

Yeah, that damn "FOCUS" is a hoax. I saw it on speedvision, it is a ford V6, modified to hell on a tubular frame with a fiberglass focus look alike body. So, it is not really a focus, just a ford powered dragster, that is called a focus. The factory Focus is slow as hell.

Well, hello there fellas.. just thought I'd drop some facts one Probes and Foci for your reading pleasure:
A 280HP focus is outrageous. It's either on nitrous or it's Forced Induction - either way, you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at it - only visible difference would be a straight-through muffler - you'd have to see under the hood.
Turbo Probes fearsome? Not really. The turbocharged 1st generation Probes (1992 and earlier) are clearly marked "GT" and "TURBO" and have a distinctively different appearance from the LX (V6) and GL (I4, N/A) of the same model years. In stock form, the 1st gen GT's pushed around 180HP and the same on torque, but still was not a frighteningly fast car. Performance could be significantly improved with turbo component upgrades and some tear-down engine work.
The second generation probe GT (1993-1997) has a V6 N/A engine rated at 165HP/164TQ, puts about 135HP down to the wheels on average. Still, this 22700lb car with decent torque can run (with a "good" driver) a 15 second quarter mile in stock form. There is a crazed society of Probe owners out there who have been saddened by the discontinuance of the vehicle by Ford and are doing everything they can to maintain and improve the performance of their cars. there are an ever-increasing number of turbo-charged and nitrous-powered V6 GT's showing up on the streets. One of the leading engine projects put down close to 400HP with a Vorech supercharger - and he didn't even take the project as far as he could have.
Still, as anyone knows, you can only go so far with a FWD car performance-wise before the car just won't launch and improve any more. As things stand, many of the souped-up V6's have broken into 12sec 1/4 times and there are a number of fairly decent budget projects currently active working towards 10-11 second cars.

Actually, my probe stock tore up one of those "hooked up" dakotas. Dodge aint nothin for speed. I have a Dodge Ram to pull my 11.68 sec probe cross country when I do sponsored races. I race 1/4 mile and do street racing too. The dodge is good for hauling. But dodge sucks for speed. I run my car with no nitrous. Its funny to see a neon with nitrous try to keep up. And you truck fans who think you have a drag truck.LOL

about the only Focus I might consider...is the one a guy in california is building. he is making a conversion kit to put 5.0 mustang rear wheel drive,5 speed , engine,trans,rear end set ups into a Focus. now that would be a sleeper and a half! lol saw a test on this car on Speed Vision and there is a web site to see the car. looks stock except for wheels and tires. Body is all stock,no ricer details! could be fun.

11.68 sec probe without nitrous. Must be running 1/8 mile. My last car was a 94 Ford Probe GT. After an engine swap out with a KLZE engine and 6000 dollars worth of engine work and upgrades. The car barely broke 13's. KLZE is the J-spec version of the Probe engine. Pulls 200hp instead of the wimpy 165. You name it. This car had it. The reason I got rid of the car was the lack of power. I could drop 5,000 on a supercharger and a few other goodies on a stock R/T and blow the doors off of my old Probe. And it could still tow that same Probe home, with 4 Passengers, and a set of slicks in the bed. Nothin' but love for Dakotas.

yea fords suck we all know that.. just some ppl have problems coping with that fact.. anyways there was a probe in my town i wont mess with.. 2.2 turbo.. it was done up by osrperformance the guy i have a windshield banner for.. and good freind.. alot of time and money went into that car and this probe was constantly smoking 5.0 stangs all the time.. with no nos.. straight tweaking.. car ran so smoooth.. and yes he could even take the r/ts that had some work done to them as well.. bad thing to say but it happened.. then all of a sudden.. oh darn the call was in an accident.. and now the engine is in a little mazda precidia .. a car that weighs like 2 lbs..

first of all, i have a 2nd generation probegt that runs 11.53's in the 1/4 (and yes i know the difference) without nos. i have a single turbo with 16 pounds of boost and intercooled. and an eaton supercharger. numerous engine options that dont feel like i have to sit here and explain to all of you who think you race with these p.o.s.'s. if you have any questions or comments or are ever in the knoxville,tn area and feel like losing your hopes, dreams, and possibly the title to your car then drop me a line. put up or shut up.
