Subject: Rear end clunk IP: Logged
Message: I have a 93 4x4 dakota with 5.2, auto, 3.55's and LSD. Alot of times when i let off the gas, I hear a very noticeable clunk from what sounds like my rear end. What could this be and does anyone else have this problem?

Message: Check your u-joints. If you can reach under there and move the drive shaft a little bit by hand and it moves at the u-joint then replace them. You will be able to see/feel the slack in it.

Message: My 97 does the same thing. I replaced the u-joints and upgraded the rear gears, but I still get it. The local 4x4 shop says it's nothing to worry about, but that is in mine. I would replace the u-joints first then go from there.

Message: Mine really isn't a clunk, I think mine is more of a rattling when I back up but I think it may have to do w/ the new exhaust I had installed not too long ago. Kinda like the sound my Ranger made when the Cat converter sheild was loose. Any suggestions for me? haha.
I've got a 2001 R/T so I don't think mine is the Ujoints.
Thanks,
~Mike~
