Subject: Speed Control Solenoid?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have an '89 V6, and I am getting an error code that says I have either:
1. An open or shorted condition in the speed control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits, or;
2. Speed control switch input is below the minimum/maximum acceptable voltage.
Does anyone know what a speed control solenoid is or what this code means?

Could be switch, wiring, solenoid or computer. The only thing that code does for you is tell you what circut to look in to. It would be guessing without proper diagnosis.

But what is a speed control? Where is it located?

Ahhh, sorry. Speed control is the cruise control, just different name. Speed control solenoid is the servo that pulls the throttle open to maintain set speed.

Aaaaah, I see. I don't have cruise control, so the circuit is open. Cool, that's been bothering me for a while. I have another code that comes up that tells me I have an open or shorted condition in my non-exixtent A/C system. Do I have it right? Thanks a lot for your help!!!

Yep, same thing and there is one for the torque converter lock up solenoid as well. All BS codes.

Awesome! Thanks for your help! I am glad it's BS, I thought it might be related to the Idle Speed Controller. Fixing nothing is a lot less expensive!

What does this code mean? I have a '95 Dodge Stratus "ES". The problem that I'm having is the car jumping into high RPM and sticking while driving. Say I'm going 30 MPH, all of a sudden the car shifts into high RPM (2.5-3) and sticks not allowing the vehicle to travel any faster than about 30-35 MPH without racing the engine or vehicle going into higher RPM. The code 41 was pulled out of the transmission computer.
