I believe the payload on my 2001 Dak CC 4x4 Sport+ is like 1,700 but how much weight can the tail gate when unlocked and down on the bumper take? I have to haul stuff to the airport in a few months that ranges from 100 to up to 300 lbs and I dont want the tail gate breaking in half when we set it up on it to slide it back in the bed.

The tailgate won't be holding all the weight. By the time your hands let go of the box (or whatever it is), it should be partially in the bed and not resting on the gate.
If it bothers you that much, take the tailgate off before loading it up.
