Well today my sister calls me up and asks me if I can use my truck to take some tile to her house. I thought this was no big deal and decided to go and help her out. So when I get there she is getting 46 boxes of the stuff plus grout and all. Well I didnt really want to load this into my dakota but said what the heck. Well when they loaded it in my 4x4 got dropped into a lowrider in the back. I knew this was bad but only had a little way to go so just went ahead. My question is, How bad is this?? Could I have messed up the leaf springs at all?? Its all normal now that its unloaded. Just wanted to know if I hurt them alot. Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. I wouldn't make a habbit of this... but you probably did not hurt anything. I had 3k lbs in the back of mine before (WAY TOO MUCH WEIGHT)... but it didn't hurt it. Just don't drive like a maniac...

I did the same thing. I let a friend talk me into moving a Honda Goldwing, the thing was huge. Didn't seem to hurt it but I'm going to be quicker to say "NO" in the future.

I'm not sure what you have but a pickup can handle quite a bit of wieght, I've seen them sitting pretty low without any harm when unloaded. I'm from NE so the ones I've seen are loaded with dirt, corn or bags of hog food. I hope your sisters tile project wasn't upstairs, OUCH, leaf springs OK-Back sagging!!! When she wants to shingle her house you might want to make yourself/or your truck scarce. I would think if you didn't have to put more air into your tires to travel safely, the suspension will be just fine. Good Luck

Guys, you guys have trucks not yugo's!!! What and the H*LL did you buy a truck for if you are not going to haul heavy loads. That box in back is not there for astetic balance. I have a friend that once used a nice SAB 900 Turbo to haul a sheet of plywood and some 2x4's because he did not want to scratch his bed. That is moronic!!!!!!!!!! With that said you should use some common sense when loading it up. You can always make more then one trip.

Sandman, Im not saying this isnt what my truck is for. I just was wondering if I could have hurt it. Yea thats what trucks are for but thats also why they make bigger trucks, they can handle bigger loads. Its also hard to control how its loaded when a guy just comes and dumps it in with a fork lift. All is well though, does anyone think if I had something like that active suspension thing it would have helped??

Yes, you can hurt it but it may show up right away. Not just the springs, but the rear bearings, housings, etc are subjected to stresses beyond suggested use. I loaned a Chevy PU to a friend once to move a SAFE! Besides being beat up and forever tilting to one side, it was never quite the same.

Next time, use a 4-wheel TRAILER to hold the overweight and pull it slowly with the DAK.

The Roadmaster Active Suspension would definately have been beneficial. I wouldn't worry about any damage. It doesn't sound like you were loaded heavy enough to hurt anything. I have loaded my trucks in the past to where the suspension stops were hitting with no adverse affects. So relax and pick up a set of active suspension springs for next time.

You should be fine as long as those leaves didn't get inversed the stops should prevent it though. We had 2 tons of corn in the back of our hunting truck last summer and it's fine.
