Subject: Fault Code P0700
IP: Logged

Message:
Cold evening (38 degrees) and I had to give it quite a bit of gas to get out in traffic. Truck was not warm at the time. Truck sputtered then ran fine.

Didn't seem like a tranny issue.

Any insight?

Do I have to go to the dealer?

Thanks

Blue

My P-Codes database only goes up to 1999.

However, the 700 series are all related to the transmission. Here's the generic definition of the P0700 code:

Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth P0700 "EATX or Aisin transmission controller has an active fault and has requested MIL

Here's what my service manual says:

EATX Controller DTC Present

This SBEC III or JTEC DTC indicates that the EATX or Aisin controller has an active fault and has illuminated the MIL via a CCD (EATX) or SCI (Aisin) message. The spscific fault must be acquired from the EATX via CCD or from the Aisin via ISO-9141.

Here's what I know: MIL=malfunction indicator light; DTC=diganostic trouble code; CCD=Chrysler collision detection. Beyond that, I'm clueless. Sounds like it needs to be read out at the dealer. Then again, if it was a one-time glitch, it might clear itself after several drive cycles.

Thanks Guys! I appreciate the help.

For furture information, I the next day I took her our to warm up the tranny fluid so I could check it. Drove about 15 miles, checked the fluid.... it was low.

Now, I'm a little pissed. Dealers had it in a couple of times for general maintance, and she doesn't leak fluid!

After checking the fluid the light went out, without add any fluid. Hmmmm????

Oh well, in to the dealer she goes! I need the rotors turned anyway.

Again, Thanks for the help

Going to pick up the Truck tonight.

Dealer stated that all sensors are reading correctly and the error code is not telling them which sensor requested the MIL. Oh well... just a fluke.

He did state that Dodge is coming out with a new shift program for the 45RFE in a couple of months thought.

My dealer mentioned a revised shift program as well, although he didn't say when it would be available. The one he told me about would raise the minimum speed at which the converter can lock up in overdrive by about 8 mph...in my case that means 50 mph rather than 42. I wouldn't mind that at all...I don't like the converter locking up so early. I do a lot of driving between 40 and 45, so my converter is constantly locking and unlocking. It doesn't drive me insane or anything, just annoys me to the point that I'll lock out OD until I hit 50 or so.

DOn't mean to drag up an old post but thats exactly what I am doing.

My truck JUST started acting strange. My tranny is nailing the gears...cool huh? Only problem is that it is because of a P0700 code and the truck is kinda bogged down speedwise also. I limped it home (right past Marty from KRC's house) to look further into the code.

I realize its a transmission code relating to a controller having an active fault but can anyone further clarify this?

No recent work done on transmission, no puddle or even drips in my driveway, fluid appears to be within the right levels.

Thanks up front for any info.
Izzy

I got this code while I was driving down the highway to VA. It seemed like the truck lost overdrive. When I was at a complete stop, the truck bogs down and the RPMs wind out until the truck decides to shift. I took the truck to a nearby dealership and they said that the transmission fuid was low. They filled it up, and it fixed the problem. BTW, I have a 01 QC 4.7

PO700 is a kind of generic code. I had it once. (2000 4.7 auto). I brought mine to autozone to have the codes read. (PO700 will show using the key on/off, but there are other codes that wont show up using the key on/off.) PO700 is like a master code, other failures will cause the code to be thrown, but the code for the original failure will be stored in the computer and can only be read with a code reader. Bring it to autozone or someplace that reads codes and it'll tell you the code that caused the PO700 code to be thrown.

Ended up being a $47 sensor that mounted down near the transmissions somewhere. Total price out the door of the stealership was $197.10 and less than 30 minutes. Got charged 1.5 hrs of labor because thats was the "time & materials" charge is for that item.

i just got the p0700 code on my car, i have a dodge intrepid 01. I brought my car to my mechanic and he said it read Electronic automatic transaxle diagnostic. Which he said meant that in the near future my shifts won't work. I called the dealership and they told me that 0700 send different codes out. So it all depends on what it reads

2000 Dodge Dakota 4.7 liter started shifting very hard and would not go into overdrive check engin lite came on. Turned key off and on three times and it displayed a P0700 code. I replaced the transmission input shaft sensor and the output shaft sensor. I still have to connect it up to a code scanner to turn of the check engin lite but it is running fine again. If you hook up an ohm meter to the bad sensor of the two, the bad sensor will read open the good sensor will read around 500 ohms. Probably best to replace both sensors as a pair Cost $38.00 each at dodge dealer
