Subject: tranny oil and filter change cost? IP: Logged
Message: Just went to the dealer today to make an appointment for my first tranny oil and filter to be changed. Dealer said it is $100. I am curious as to how much everyone else here pays or how much your dealer charges. I just think that is a little high but maybe it is me.

Message: Here in Northern California, the dealer charges around 60 to change the rear axle fluid. Not sure about tranny change....but they but do more than just replace the oil and filter for 100 bucks. Maybe the 100 bucks includes a tranny flush. Out of curiosity, at what mileage are you servicing the tranny?

Message: Two different dealers
Tranny Power Flush 120 or 105
Axle (dino oil) ea. 65 or 55
The difference is the area that they are in. One is in the more $$$$ area and the other is in $$ area. Even houses are 50k in difference in the areas.

Message: The Dodge Dealer in my area wants $100 to change the trans filter and about 6 quarts of fluid.
They do not flush all of the old fluid out of the trans like at the "Penzoil 10 minute oil change" shops.

Message: I paid $65 for the differential service at 60,000 miles and $185 for a complete flush of the torque converter and then pan/filter change of my trans. It had never been done and made my tranny perform much better, so I am happy. My dealer here is a 5-Star and they are excellent, we are lucky to have them...Hayes C/P, Lawrenceville, GA (Dave Carter).

Message: I did mine the other day. The dealer realy soaks you for parts. My 2001 QC uses two filters and niether of them are available at retail outlets yet. The one filter was $16.00, the other filter was $34.00 and if you use Mopar ATF+4 you will be looking at $8.95 per quart. I ordered Redline Synthetic C+ATF for 7.95 a quart. The owners manual said that it required 6 quarts with a filter change. I put 4 quarts in then checked it at idle. I needed to add more. I added 5 quarts and checked it, then 6 and it looked ok. I took it for a 4 mile spin and when I pulled in to check it was showing empty on dip stick. I added quart 7 and it looked ok at idle. I then drove it 10 miles and checked it. It was still not at the full mark for the hot measurement. I added another quart. I have checked it 3-4 times since then and it is perfect once it is warmed up. It took a total of 8 quarts even though the book only said that it only required around 6 quarts. P.S. It shifts even better then before.

Message: I hear you sandman...
My dealer sells the fluid for about $7 a quart, but I wanted a total flush of the converter, so I let them do it.
