Message: I accidentally drove my 4.7L with the OD off at 65mph. I realized this after a couple of miles. I assume that this did no damage to the engine since the RPMs were only at about 2500. Is this true? Thanks

Message: Mike, don't sweat it you did absolutly no damge by driving with the overdrive off. I have a 98 with a 5.2 and I tow my boat at 65 without the overdrive. All you did was use a little more fuel then you needed to. I wouldn't get in the habit of forgetting it though, or you will definitly pay for it at the pump.

Message: Hey Mike I live in a big city and I leave my OD off for a higher RPM to get on the freeway...I wrap it up to at least 3000 RPM's but thats only for a few seconds but while I'm driving about 70-75 it gets up to 2-1/2 RPMs even in OD so its cool your not going to ruin your engine or anything.

Message: On my 4.7 (before the turbo), while towing my trailer I would never even use 5th (OD). You could drive it all day at 4000 rpm and it wouldn't hurt anything but your wallet. It does consume more fuel at the higher rpms, but it certainly isn't damaging anything.
