Bumping this thread just for Sesquash (on another thread) who touted MMM as if it were mana from heaven.

I run marvel mystery oil in a 1990 Pontiac Grand Am with 2.5 engine , had a lifter , sticking when got the car at 143,000 miles , lifter stopped making noise and car runs great put a quart of mystery oil in at every oil change , car has 153,000 on it now and runs great. Have used MMO from the early 70's , never had any problems using it. Stuff works great, anything that has been around since 1923, must be good.

I wouldn't use it in anything with an O2 sensor or catalytic converter.

I'v used it since 1994 in all of my vehicles, my parents vehicles, and my dad's work truck fleet. Never had a problem, and I also had it cure a few ticking lifters for me. I used it in my 02 Dak, and no problems.

Hmmmm....a lot of mixed feelings about this stuff. Anyway, I have a 2000 Dakota Sport 4DR 4WD. I use nothing but synthetic oil. I now have 100K miles and still going strong. As far as MMO i don't see any need to use with synthetic oils.

I've owned Dodges for many years. I started using MMO around 1978 in an old powerwagon to quiet the lifters and used a quart for every oil change. The other car I own now is a 1993 3.3l Caravan. I bought it in 1994 with 19K miles. I used nothing but Castrol 10-40 and changed every 3500 miles with one pint of MMO in the fuel. I didn't start using MMO in the engine until I hit 65K after which I would use one quart with the oil and a pint with the fuel. This car now has 214K and injectors have never had to be cleaned nor consumes oil. Mileage is around 26mpg. Now.... there is a story about this car, my wife was driving home from work and hit a chunk of ice on the freeway. She said the oil light flickered then went out. She then heard a noise that sounded like a diesl engine. She thought it may have been the exhaust system (origional). She drove another 35 miles to home. When I came home I began to check it out. I started the engine and I could hear every moving part in the engine! AAAGHHH I very quickly shut it down! I checked the dip stick and the engine was dry! I looked under the car and the end of the oil pressure switch was blown out allowing all the oil to evacuate. (Hitting the ice chunk must have broken it). I thought to myself "this is it for this old girl" (the car) I removed the broken sending unit and replaced with a plug. I put four quarts of the castrol and one quart of MMO. When I started the engine the rod and mains quieted down, but the lifters were very noisy like a diesl engine. I let it idle for about half an hour when it was warmed up. I thought what the heck, I reved the engine half throttle several times and then the lifters quieted down. Sounded pretty good! Now for the road test. I drove it on the freeway 70 to 75 mph for 30 miles or so to see if it would tear itself apart. Low and behold it didn't! The next day I replaced the sending unit and the car is still running strong. I believe the MMO defied the laws of physics and saved the engine. I am a true believer of this stuff.

I have read all the messages and there is a lot of pros and cons concerning the use of MMO. All I know is about my own experiences with the use of the oil. I have used the oil since the late 1950s and attest that if you run some through an older type vehicle, mine was a 1958 Ford V-8, you will experience an increase of about 500 RPM, which is useful if your racing a quarter mile track.
My latest experience with the use of MMO has to do with my wifes 1988 Olds Cutlass Supreme, with a 2.8 engine. We purchase the car 11 years ago and it had 68,000 miles on it at that time. I have put MMO in the fuel tank at every fill up and the vehicle now has over 281,000 miles on it. I have never had any trouble with the fuel injectors and the engines sounds as strong as the day it was bought. No trouble with convertors or oxygen sensors. when changing the spark plugs, I have noticed a little red slipry residue, but no evidence of fouling. Final word, the engine runs and sounds great.
As for using MMO as an oil additive, I have to agree with most of the comments that have been made. I don't use it in my crankcase on a regular basis. I have used it in the past to flush out an engine that has sit a long time. Yes, it will clean out a mucked up engine.

I have used it in my 1989 Chevy s-10 blazer and it works great. Throttle body has never been cleaner. Really does lube upper engine area. I dont know about adding to oil but theres a reason so many aircraft piston engines run on 'MMO'. It does help!

I use MMO in both, the crankcase and fuel tanks of all my vehicles. I too am an aircraft engine mechanic and have been since back in the late 50's. We didn't use it then because I had never heard of it. One thing you may not know is in the winter when engine oil was cold stiff, we used the "Oil Dilute" system to thin the oil. That was simply dumping gasoline into the oil. When it got hot, the gasoline evaporated. You would be shocked to hear a lot of things about those old engines. The blades were walked through to keep from blowing the lower jugs (pistons) off the engine due to cold, thick oil.

I have been using MMO in all my vehicles for 21 years. I can say that every motor I've disassembled has had no carbon build up on the piston domes, valves or combustion chambers. MMO really does reduce carbon build up and it lubes the vavle guides/valve stems. I used a set of valves and valve guides in a Harley Sportster for 14 YEARS thanks to adding MMO to the fuel. This stuff REALLY works!
