Subject: codes from 97 check engine light ?
IP: Logged

Message:
Ive got a 97 RC 2wd v6 5 spd Dakota, and its been misfiring lately. I pulled the codes off the computer, and it says 12, then 43, then the check engine light blinks 3 times, then 43 again, then the check engine light blinks once, then 55, then the check engine light blinks 6 times....

Does anybody know what the blinking light means?

Thanks Bernd, now let me lay this information on you:

This started after I filled up with some suspect gas about middle of July. I replaced the 4 month old plugs, and one of them smelled of gas and was black sooty colored. Drove fine, and the light even went out a few times, but it always comes back.

Finally, this morning the truck didnt start.

Do you think my truck has multiple problems?

Hey George... I am having the exact same problem as you, same codes and all in my 97 Ram... I just replaced the plugs, wires, coil, cap, and rotor as well as punched out the converter and still got the 12 and 43 codes. I have an extreme lack of power and the SES light flashes continually... if you've solved your problem, I'd really appreciate your input. Thanks alot, it was nice to see that I wasn't the only one going crazy.
