 Subject: 98 Rear End in a 96

I have a 96 Dakota 2wd standard cab long bed v-6 automatic.
My rear end needed a replacement. The pull a part desk told me I could use a replacement from a later dakota. Now that I have bought one and have mine almost out, I see there are differences in the brake line, emergency brake cables, and shock mount. Can someone please tell me if I can make the 98 8 1/4 work iin a 96 that also came with an 8 1/4?

I had to move one shock mount, grind the locating lug on top of the springs a little smaller, and the emergency bbrake cable on drivers side is now unnecessary.
