Subject: Adapter needed for Fumoto valve? IP: Logged
Message: Hi! I was just about to buy a Fumoto oil drain valve for my 2002 QC. The 4.7L takes part number F-106N. Their site recommended I use an adapter because of a recessed oil pan plug. Yet I've seen mention on other review sites that the adapter isn't needed. Anybody know if I have to buy it or not? I'd like to find out before I waste $10 on an adapter I don't need.
Also, does anybody have any particular preference to AC Delco Ultraguard Gold vs. K&N oil filters? I've used both in the past on my other vehicles, and like both brands. Aside from the AC being synthetic, is there a benefit to one over the other? I'm not racing or anything, but I do tend to take off in the thing before it warms up, so whichever one flows more cold oil might be good. I know they're both built well. I wish that oil filter review that's out there included the K&N line. It'd be nice to see a comparison.

Message: It should stop it if you get the kind with the nipple on it to attach a hose to. Granted, mind hasn't gotten here yet, so I can't confirm or deny this. But it seems reasonable enough that if the hose is going right into the waste oil container, it shouldn't be leaking on the skid plates. I'll have to jump through hoops to keep the oil filter from spilling on them, but that's another story.

Message: Could others confirm that the Fumoto oil drain valve part number for the Magnum 4.7 is in fact Part # F-106N . Also curious what Summit is charging for this valve. As far as install, do you just remove the drain plug and screw in the Fumoto oil drain valve. Anyone else care to say they did NOT need the "adapter" in order to install the Fumoto oil valve on a Magnum 4.7.
Thanks in advance for your assist! Bill in NY

Message: I ordered mine with the adapter and found that it made the nipple come out too far. It works much better without the adapter. Don't waste your money.
As far as oil still dripping on the skid plates:
It won't happen anymore. I simply attach a piece of 3/8 tubing on the nipple and the oil goes where you direct it. No mess, especially on the skid plates. Not even a drop.
Speaking of the skid plates, they are not made entirely of plastic. It is a composite material that is just as strong as steel, but will not dent or rust. They are also 45% lighter than steel.

Message: I fixed my oil draining skid plate problem with my sawsall. I removed my skid plate. Measured approx 5 inches towards the rear. I drilled the corners of where I would be cutting and cut a nice square piece out. Now there is no skid plate mess when changing my oil and it didn't cost me a dime except for my time. This skid plate fiasco strengthens my arguement that engineers need to intern as mechanics for a year before designing cars.

Message: On Fumoto USA's site, http://www.fumotousa.com, there's a size and application chart. It lists F-106N as the part number for Dodge's with the 4.7L, 2000 and on. Remember that the N is the version with the nipple on it. You can also choose not to get the nipple. I also found it in a couple of mailing list archives that turned up in a Google search of Fumoto and Dakota, I believe. It was in a couple different locations, in any case. Fumoto says you need the adapter. Everyone else says you don't.
Summit charges $19.95 for the part, I believe, and about $10 for the adapter. If you want your own confirmation, goto to Fumoto's website, call the number, and ask the guy who answers the phone. I ordered one for my dad's '89 Grand Marquis too, and I had to call since I couldn't find a listing anyplace for that part.
Hope this helps.

Message: I don't care what they say at Fumoto, you do not need the damn adapter.
Those guys are either mis-informed or trying to make extra money by stating one needs the adapter.
Don't order the adapter!!!!
