Message: I am looking for a torque wrench for under $80.00(u.s.) and dont know what to look for. Buying one from a tool truck like Snap-On, Matco, etc. is not an option. Are the Craftasman torque wrenches any good?

Message: Craftsman torque wrenches are fine. The bar type is the most accurate if you can see the scale during use. The click type is more convenient, but require periodic calibration checks.

Message: If you live in the western states you can buy on from Harbor Freight tools. I got my clicker type 3/8" drive, professional quality, lifetime warranty, on sale for $12. Serious. Don't waste your money.

Message: Go for the click type, there will be situations where you can't see the pointer on the bar type, and the pointer is delicate. As long as you unload the click type after use it will last nearly forever.
When you buy a click type look closely at the dial and decide if you want ft-lbs or metric. The vernier fine adjustment on the handle will only be convenient for one measure. For instance, if you buy one that is primarily metric, you will find the vernier, rather than having ten gradations that indicate the midrange between say 40 and 50 ft-lbs, you may find it has ten gradations that indicate the midrange between 22.5 and 37.5 ft-lbs. Try and set that properly without pen and paper!
Think about what you want to use it for and what ranges you want, and whether you want 3/8 or 1/2 drive. If your vehicle has an aluminum head or head and block, an inch-lbs wrench will also be helpful.

Message: Kevin - Are you pleased with your $12 torque wrench from Harbor Freight??
Everything I have ever got from them was a POS!!
I'm looking for a "click type" torque wrench also. I have a clumsy bar type which has a long arm and is virtually unuseable unless your working on lug nuts.
The Craftsman is probably a good tool - Cost $70, not on sale.
