Message: I just replaced my timing chain on my 2002 quad cab 4.7.
187,000. I'm the original owner and have really maintained it, and i
figured that's what it was. Also, your lash adjusters (lifters) may be
worn which would cause a tapping. If the noise is at the front
possibly timing chain, back farther lifters. Find yourself a mechanic
you can trust and have them take a peek. If you take care of your
Dakota you will be really happy with it. I am! Also, get yourself a
good repair manual for your truck...educate yourself and you will
feel better. Always good to know what you can do and what you
can't do : )
