Subject: Transfer case temp.

Message:
I just replaced the transfer case-to-front differential shaft on a
2002 Dakota because the bearing was worn out. Then made a
100 mile trip over good mountain highways at 60MPH (no
undue stress). Ran good - no vibration or noise. At the end of
the trip I immediately crawled under and touched the shaft
bearing. I could leave my hand on it for maybe 2 seconds (no
blisters). Transfer case felt about the same. Prior to this repair
I never thought about it but now I need to know how hot the
transfer case and shaft bearing should be after a trip like this.
Does anyone know?
