I've read some past posts about adding fuel injector cleaner. Do most people on this site add this to their gas? I thought I read in the manual that Dodge does not recommend using this stuff....probably so that we'll be force to pay for the dealer's expensive fuel injector service. Let me know. Thanks.

I put some in my tank at least once a year. If you use the stuff that cost $4-15 you should notice a slight difference on the following tank of gas. Put it in your tank when you are leaving for a long trip on the highway, that will give your injectors a good cleaning.

Chevron is the best. I put it in every oil change.

I always use a bottle of fuel injector cleaner every time I change my fuel filter. I use Chevron fuel injector cleaner every 6000 miles. I don't trust the factory owner manuals. Their recommended mileage service intervals for oil changes, fuel filters and other basic maintenance are usually always on the high side. For example I have a 92 Nissan P/U. My owner's manual says I should change the oil every 7500 miles and the oil filter EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE. Now that's just crazy.

The big name brand ones work great, just stay away from the $.99 STP stuff.

Chevron makes a fuel injector cleaner called Techron and one called Pro-guard both are excellent and will keep injector clean. B-12 Chemtool in the steel pint can works great too. Do not get the B-12 in the plastic bottel it cost more and is the same as steel pint can. Booth can be had a Walmart. I add one to two bottles depending on fuel tank size every oil change. I have never had a clogged injector.

Chevron pump gas already has Techron as an ingredient. I dont notice any difference in power or performance with the stuff. I think they are over rated. Besides i heard storiesof them possibly harming the fuel pump over the long run.

cwx4@bellsouth.net, the cleaners are not there to increase performance; they are there to maintain OEM performance. It is kind of like keeping your arteries clean. GM has publicly listed dirty and clogged injectors as the main cause of poor perfromance and driveability issues. They have also listed this as the main cause in emission tet failures. The number one cause is insufficient detergency in fuel. BMW also has written, published a spoken out publicly about this same issue. The problem is that most fuel injector cleaners are cheap solvents that are left over from makeing paper and they do little to nothing to clean the injectors and some actualy impair performance. The problem is that their is not anyone source that will tell you who makes theirs. I can tell you that the chevron product is the most widely used by mechanics. I can also say that Redlines fuel injector cleaner meets BMW's specs. for fuel system cleaning.

Here is my 2 cents.
When you pop the top on an injector cleaner, does it smell like DIESEL???
I heard that one quart of diesel or kerosene with a full tank of fuel will clean your injectors, and a lot of times that's what is in the $4 can you just bought. Diesel has detergents in it. What's diesel going for now, $1.42 a gallon? divide that by 3.78 = $0.37
