Subject: Owners of 2000 Dakotas (read) IP: Logged
Message: When the 2001 Dakotas were released, they recieved a 5 year powertrain warranty and the rest of the Chrysler's fleet. I bought mine truck in June 2000, I paid the extended warranty for 5 years it cost roughly $1500(cdn). This is not fair, the 2001 truck came out in Sept. If I knew that there was going to be a 5 year warranty, I would have waited to buy my truck in 3 MONTHS. (2001 model)
I wrote a letter to Chrysler about this situation, they said we will not give you the warranty for free. That, it's my fault for buying their truck and we're not going to do anything about it.
I'm wondering why I never heard anything on the net about this screw up by Chrysler. I heard rumors about lawsuits, because they went about this the wrong way.

Message: Yeah, I bought my 2000 on July 4th. That is really poor of dodge to hide that fact from the buyer. Although I like the 2000 dash and 4wd system better. I am against push button 4wd.

Message: Hey Jon, I agree with you about the dash and the 4wd, but I wish I could get those 16" rims from the 2001 Dakota.
Hey Dennis, the reason why I went with the 5 year warranty wasn't for the bumper to bumper. I bought the warranty for the 4X4 system and because the 4.7 came out in 2000 on Dakota's. So you don't know what problems will pop up in the long run.

My 2000 was going to have the 3 year, but i got the extended warrenty for roughly $1000 more. I really wish that i knew of a 5 yr warrenty then. I might have waited a month or two.

Message: I thought that this applied also in the states too, In Canada Dodge commericals are using this warranty as a selling point, 5 year / 100K powertrain warranty. I got to post this on the DML site and other Dodge mailing list.

Message: They might have a 5 year warranty in Canada but they sure don't have it in the U.S.A. I have a 2001 and it's only three years. A little hint though to you no matter how long your warranty is. Right before it runs out. Go to your Dealer and tell him it's almost up and you want them to look over your truck and see if there is anything about to give out on it.( Like air conditioning hoses that could have a small leak.)
You will pay them a labor charge for checking it but I almost guarantee they will find things wrong with your truck and fix them under the warranty. Possably saving you hundreds down the road.

Message: My best friend works at chrysler and at there dealership they have a computer and it tells them when there warrenty is up. From what i hear the seals on the transfer case and tranny break with normal wear and start leaking ATF everywhere to the point where it will leak on the driveway. This is covered under warrnty but at every service they just wipe it of and fill up the ATF they wait until warrenty is up to cry about it.
Now if its leased they give the new owner has $100.00 deductable and when they notice this they pay the 100 and the dealers happy and the owner is happy.
ITs a rip of. Make sure they fix it under warrenty.

Message: In Canada, the 2001 warranty is 3 years/60000Km bumper to bumper and 5 Years/100000Km powertrain. These are the Stock Warranties starting on all the 2001 Chrysler products in Canada. 2000 models are 3 Years/60K across the board. So Yes, There is a warranty that long for free.

Message: Warranties will vary between the US and Canada, and may even vary some (mostly emissions) sate to state within the US (California comes to mind). the extended power train warranties on Chrysler products in the US were based on date of sale, not year model. For a short period of time, 7yr 100,000 mile powertrain came with all new vehicle sales (during 2001 I think), but this warranty is not transferrable to subsequest owners (if it is, then only one time, not sure). The current powertrain warranty of 7yr 70,000 miles is fully transferrable to susequent owners. Each carries a $100.00 per visit deductible. The fact that a vehicle is leased NEVER changes the terms of the warranty.
You are correct to assume that most all dealers will be happy to inspect your vehicle at/near its warranty's end for an inspection fee. The dealership at which I work does it for free for all REGULAR customers (regular as in all oil and filter changes, all tune up work, all warranty repairs), BUT we will charge anyone who is not a regular of ours or only comes in for warranty work.
