 Subject: 98 Dakota Shift Issue

I inherited my dad's 98 Dakota SLT with a 318 V8. The truck has 60,000 miles and has done a lot of sitting up for the past few years. The auto trans. shifts fine 1st to 2nd but 2nd to 3rd you have to get up to 40 miles per hour and let off the gas to make it shift. The problem is worse when it is cold. After driving it for 30 to 45 minutes in warm weather it will finally shift fine. I've checked the fluid level and it is fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Service the trans using the proper fluid and filter. That should
help if it's been sitting for a while.
